Replacing a DF trem with a hardtail?

Post by goldspanner »

I've got an SC-2, and I'm not exactly in love with the trem, although I generally don't like floating trems at all.

I'm toying with the idea of permanently blocking it, but also with the idea of just replacing the bridge with a hardtail.

Has anyone done this? Maybe a G&L hardtail, or something else with the correct spacing?

Alex, I would just block it. My Clapton Strat and John Mayer both came blocked although in different ways. You would have to find an aftermarket hardtail bridge that may work but the Saddlelock would most likely require some routing. I would just block it. First I would just remove the trem arm and try that.-- Darwin

Just block it. It's about as simple and effective as it gets. All it takes is a correctly-sized piece of wood. A hardtail will give you no sonic difference over just blocking it, and the blocking is completely reversible without leaving a trace.
