ASAT III BBE-Version

Post by bbjonz »

Hi Everyone,

Most everyone here knows about the Leo-era ASAT III's, but I actually prefer the second batch, made mostly in 1996. Greg Gagliano's site has lots of info regarding the Leo-era version but can't find much about the second batch. Most in that second batch were 3-bolt but a few 4-bolts, made in 1997, have surfaced recently. So, two questions. First, what are the actual production dates of that second batch and, second, were they all shipped with just the 5-way pup selector?

I've owned three of the second-batch versions, and all had the 5-way switch. None had a push-pull or mini-toggle to engage all 7 pup combinations. But it's possible a few left the shop with that mod. Maybe.

Thanks in advance.

A partial answer to my question, the '96 in the catalog in the gallery shows the ASAT III but does not mention the toggle or push/pull option in the description. The 94 catalog doesn't show the ASAT III at all, so production does seem to be limited to 96-97.

No expander function on the ASAT III's.
Some other detail can be found in the G&L Knowledgebase post: List of Regular Production ASAT-style guitars (USA).

Hope this helps.
