Personally - black burst. I'd go for a matching headstock too but ONLY if its going to have a rosewood fingerboard.

What style of guitar are you going for - ASAT, Legacy, Comanche, etc.?
I like the blackburst idea for a Legacy/S-500/Comanche (with the rosewood board and matching headstock like blarg suggested), but a double-bound body would be real nice on a semi-hollow ASAT, an Invader, or something that comes with humbuckers or a flame maple top.

Great dilemma to have :D

Two-Tone Burst Double Bound with a Vintage Tint maple neck would be nice, matching headstock would work well too, especially if you go quarter-sawn.

Black burst double bound would look good with a satin neck or light tint gloss w/a natural headstock. If you want matching headstock, I'd definitely go light tint gloss and bind the neck as well.

You can always try the "gut reaction" test, too. Start with a coin flip - heads for blackburst, tails for double-bound two tone burst - but then see what your reaction is to the result. If it comes up heads (blackburst) and think "oh, good!" then that's what you go with, but if your reaction is more along the lines of "aw, nuts!" then go with the other option :)

Hey Darwin,

It looks to me like the finish on your Z-3 SH is 3-tone Sunburst, not a 2-Tone.

Your pictures are 768 wide x 1024 high and are within the limits [up to 1000 wide x 1300 high] of the Img BBCode, so you can use this:

Code: Select all

[img]http://i1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff467/darwinohm/IMG_1717.jpg[/img]
Also, when using the timage BBCode, don't use the img code around the photo link, just the link itself.

Here's your photos of your 3-tone Sunburst Z-3 SH:

Very nice looking, I've got one similar but in Tobacco Sunburst and without f-hole.

Hope this helps.

Darwin, you are comparing apples to oranges.
Twangster2 will not have the option of GOLD hardware.
Two/three tone burst is not the same in GOLD compared to silver.

Craig, I don't mean to hijack this thread but when I posted this picture last night I asked myself the same question. I then went in the house and compared these two G&Ls. The camera picks up more red than my eye does. Here is a picture of the two and let me know what you think and I will correct in the registry if this is a 3t sunburst. Also the pictures last night were posted with a beta of Photobucket and it works differently. Thanks-- Darwin

Darwin, I'd take the photos against a more neutral background. The pink is bringing out the reds in the photo...

Seeing this pic, it could be Tobacco Sunburst. :searching:
Is the outer edge color (and possibly the back) a dark brown (Tobacco Sunburst) or black (3-tone Sunburst)?
I agree with Jag that the background is bringing out the reds. I'd like to see a photo without flash in a natural light against a neutral background.

Regardless of the version of photobucket, you still want to use just the link to the jpg file. View image, right click,
select "Copy image URL" and then paste that link between the Img tags.

Thanks Craig, I will post some pictures later this week after my medical procedure today. After looking at the G&L generator, I am convinced that it is a 3T Tobacco. I looked at both of them in the direct sunlight and that also makes me believe that it is Tobacco. Thanks again Craig.
