Hi all, I just recently picked up my second g&l. I own an 2005 asat classic custom ordered and now I own a 2008 Legacy in Tobacco burst with maple neck and cream p/g/knobs/pup covers.
My question is what kind of pickups did they use in these guitars, are they alnico 5 magnets? Also I noticed that I have some interaction with the tone controls for all pickups, is this something that g&l does? The guitar is stock and flawless just like my 2005 asat, not a mark on either one.
I have tried before to post pics and all that shows up is my img code, guess I'm going to have to sit and read the tutorial again, problem is my pics are to big I think, even though they are standard pics I can put on any forum, so idk.
I absolutely love the trem on these legacys, no wiggle room like on my strats, and I have some nice strats as well, just a great system. I'm a g&l guy now, my other guitars are not neglected but don't get much lovin anymore. These g&l's will do that too you.
Last thing is funny when I was at the shop, there was a kid who passed over this guitar for a fender that was made like dog poop compared to the legacy and as soon as he put down the g&l I picked it up and pulled out the cash, and said kid you will live and learn on this one. He only bought the fender cause it said fender, the legacy was leagues above as far as build quality and everyone in the shop told him that, they were the same price except the legacy is custom usa build and the fender was higher end mim

See this link for info on G&L pickups:

The PTB tone controls should work on all pickups.
Here is a good description of how the system works:

If your suspicion is correct, read up on the timage tag. That would allow you to 'resize' the picture, although you have to take care of maintaining the aspect ratio yourself.gadgetfreak wrote:I have tried before to post pics and all that shows up is my img code, guess I'm going to have to sit and read the tutorial again, problem is my pics are to big I think, even though they are standard pics I can put on any forum, so idk.
Loved your story on the kid passing up on the Legacy and good advice

Re: 2008 legacy
Hi all, I thought that when the body showed that nice wood grain with a burst finish it was ash, I'm reading on guitarcenter website that the legacy's body is alder, is this just for painted models? I can't find anything on my guitar, I'm almost certain it's an ash body, looks like one piece, I can't find any joining wood anywhere on body. It's a beautiful tobacco burst but shows lots of wood grain where the burst is lighter. This is exactly what my guitar looks like except the p/g is cream colored as well and I have a graphtek stringtree http://proguitarshop.com/g-l-legacy-6.html
I have to assume my guitar has vintage alnico 5 pickups, I can't find anything else under legacy in pickup chart listed.

The default body specification for the Legacy is:gadgetfreak wrote:Hi all, I thought that when the body showed that nice wood grain with a burst finish it was ash, I'm reading on guitarcenter website that the legacy's body is alder, is this just for painted models? BODY WOOD: Swamp Ash on Premier Finishes, Alder on Standard Finishes
Tobacco Sunburst, 2-tone Sunburst, 3-tone Sunburst, and Cherryburst are Standard Finishes.
The first two pickup listed are the Legacy pickups:
Seymour Duncan SSL Vintage (flats) were in the 1992-94 builds.
G&L Vintage Style Alnico V are in the Legacy model post-1994.
Hope this helps.

That's not to say that someone did not order an Ash body with a Standard finish. If yours looks like the one in the picture it is most probably Ash. Photos would be definitive. The default body specification for the Legacy is:
BODY WOOD: Swamp Ash on Premier Finishes, Alder on Standard Finishes
Tobacco Sunburst, 2-tone Sunburst, 3-tone Sunburst, and Cherryburst are Standard Finishes.
