Thanks to all that answered my questions today. You guys are the nicest bunch of folks! I bought from Amazon's website where they said molded case included. Mine is Tolex...its a 2012, and its light and wonderful.
Many thanks and happy holidays,

Re: ASAT special hollow arrives
I'm at the hospital seeing pts. But, I got to A/B the ASAT vs my Legacy using a Diamond compressor, T-Tex overdrive pedal through a 65 Deluxe RI. The compressor added crunch to the ASAT when I cranked it.

Re: ASAT special hollow arrives
Sounds like a winner. I run mine through a Carl Martin Compressor/Limiter when I go to my '82 Bassman Ten. It really does nice things to the sound, although IMO my ASATs all sound great straight into the amp as well.

Re: ASAT special hollow arrives
Sounds nice!
I do agree about MFDs working great straight into the amp, and I use the volume and tone much more than with Fender pups, the G&Ls give lots of shades of drive and tone controlled from the guitar.
Haven't tried a Carl Martin, but love my Diamond comp, can't get a bad sound out of it.
Also like the 65 DRRI, but better after I removed the bright cap from the vibrato channel, took out V1, biased it better (about 23 mA @ 360 anode volts), and also put a 5k pot in series with the negative feedback link from the speaker jack. I put a hole for it next to the "ground" switch, where the old voltage selectors used to go, and gave it a big Ampeg cooker knob, so I can feel where it is easily without having to look round the back. This pot stays around halfway, for my taste, and gives a gentler, more playable transition into crunch. I still have the original Eminence "Legend"-type ("Special Design") speaker in it, and it's not too bad once the electronics are tweaked in, but I will try a Cannabis Rex in it. Reports are that C. Rex is still bright, just warmer and free of harshness. Hopefully the warmth will let me drop the bass setting at the preamp, which will tidy up the crunch department a little more down the bottom end, although that's pretty OK as of now.
I did once try increasing the size of the coupling cap into the phase-inverter, but hated it. Possibly good for massive dirtiness, but nothing you can't do with a high bass setting, and you can't make it go away. Apparently, silverfaces were like that, but I couldn't wait to get it back to normal again. I want playable clarity that's drivable into punch crunch, not flatulence, and now I have it.
I love MFDs, and G&Ls altogether! Hope you and your new Special are happy together!

I'm sure you'll love it. I've got a similar era Special hollow and it's a beautiful guitar.
