Changing 250k volume pot to 500k with hot pickups

Post by MJ Slaughter »

My Legacy Special has the hot rail bridge and cool rails in the mid and neck position. Currently the volume pot is 250k but isn't that making a hot humbucker kind of dark? I would like more top end and wanted to know how changing the the 500k volume pot would affect the current G&L wiring and functionality of the tone controls.

Well I put a 500k push/pull in place of the 250k volume pot and I am much happier with these pickups now. Before the change the guitar had a nice thick tone that sounded to me like it had too much gain for my tastes and not enough high end. With the 500k pot I have a little more high end bit and I perceive that the higher gain from these pickups is more usable for my playing. I may still put single coils in the middle and neck but for now it's working for me.
