Just Announced: The G&L Black Ice Collection
Just announced to the G&L Dealers!
The G&L Black Ice Collection
The new Black Ice Collection takes G&L’s Nearly Naked™ (NENA) finish in a whole new direction
with a bad-ass look for players ready to grab the spotlight. Like the 2012 Special Collection,
Black Ice models feature G&L’s newly-developed NENA finish applied over premium two-piece
swamp ash bodies. This time around, no pickguard comes between your eyes and the dramatic
Black Ice finish.
Having worked with a variety of staining and burnishing techniques, G&L craftsmen developed
the Nearly Naked finish blending old-world techniques with modern finish technology. While the
NENA vision was all about highlighting the natural beauty of swamp ash, artists never stop
exploring. Before long G&L master painter Malcolm McLamore had developed Black Ice, a sleek
matte black base with silver highlights embedded in the sweeping grain of the swamp ash. You’ll
be forgiven for thinking such an intricate finish may be delicate, but the Nearly Naked Black Ice
finish is surprisingly durable yet reveals the wood’s natural texture to the touch.

I just like the fact that you can get a Bluesboy without a pickguard.

you always could. they just constantly lied about it. if i were darwin i'd make them make a new one without the pickguard.LiquidSmoke wrote:I just like the fact that you can get a Bluesboy without a pickguard.
these look nice, but the original nena collection would look better without the pg's.

Re: Just Announced: The G&L Black Ice Collection
Sounds like it might be really cool,
Does anyone have a REAL picture of one they can share ?
I like the "Alan Parsons" style advert (the guitars almost look real ).
...brings back memories of Pat Benatars first MTV vid
G&L's website dampens the GAS I had when I got there...it's like looking at Anime' when your want to see
some nearly naked action . Where's the SKIN ???
I hate to say it but whoever is in charge of the creativity on the website should be moved to making bumperstickers ...
and then get a real photographer ( even a mediocre photograph would be better than whats up now which looks like a cut and paste photoshop job )
I usually have to wait for some to show up on ebay to get some realistic pics from different angles, that's not right !
Malcom's work deserves better

Steve replied:The Bluesboy and Legacy Deluxe will be available as left-handed models.
No options are available, they only come as specified.
Hope this helps. The concept of our special run models to come up with a unique cosmetic look (and in some with some models unique functions) that stay the same.
We want to take the options out of the mix on these models. It has worked well for us with the 30th Anniversary, Korina, 2012 Special Collection
and now the Black Ice.

the black ice is cool but in my humble opinion the NENA finish would also look great in vintage white or blonde

Thanks for the update. What about locking tuners for that Legacy Deluxe? I could go after-market, but it would no longer be "stock"...

You would have to go after-market on any changes from the spec, Dave was clear on that.willross wrote:Thanks for the update. What about locking tuners for that Legacy Deluxe? I could go after-market, but it would no longer be "stock"...

Just found this and I'm smitten.
But I'm just wondering why go Tone Pros rather than Saddle Lock on the Deluxe? Just wonder what factors were considered in making this decision.... Thanks! - ed

I like it.
No PG on the Legacy.
Does G&L think most people want a 1 5/8" nut? I'm thinking 1 11/16" would be the majority.

1 5/8" : narrow
1 11/16": medium
1 3/4": wide
I prefer 1 3/4" and wouldn't buy a 1 5/8" -- too skinny for me,

My guess is that it's one there to give the guitar more of a Les Paul type feel than the regular Deluxe. The Tone pros is a nice bridge that's very well made - I for one like seeing G&L trying all these new things.zapcosongs wrote:Just found this and I'm smitten.

Then again, they might just be left-over stock from the Korina series

No, no doubling has happened - my count has been steady at 4 all year, I just didn't have an appropriate photo displaying them all . There is no doubt in my mind that that number will increase next year!yowhatsshakin wrote:+1 Hadn't noticed the doubling of the collection yet. I got to play them in September.
My wife and I took a trip to the factory in early September and I got to see the Black Ice as prototype. It would be a lie to say I did not try to steal one.
The addition of the sand in to the NeNa black finish was too damn cool. It is really a texture that only the player gets to see but, guitars are for the player.
We have some on order too. I should also say that there are some really cool finish options coming down the pike. 2013 is going to be a great year for G&L fans.

I'll have to stop by once you have one in . I'd like to see one in person, but I do feel a little less inclined to buy sinceTheguitarstore wrote:

noone responded to my gripes about the cut and paste pics (which seem to be the only representation out there ) from G&L's bureau.
I'd have some good lighting, a macro setting on my cheap digital camera and I bet I could take some shots that would sell the new finishes...why doesn't someome at G&L do that?

Re: I got to play them in September.
We just got shipping notification. We'll see a Legacy & a Bluesboy on Monday, Nov 12! Also, just wanted to put it out there that when you stop in, please give us some pointers on how we can make our photos look better. Lighting is tough in our store, so we need a bit of help from someone who knows a little better.

Found the south park episodes...I was wrong, it's titled "Go,god,go"
http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-ep ... -go-god-go
and
http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-ep ... god-go-xii
I've only bought new twice (a washburn eagle when I was in 9th grade, and an Alvarez acoustic in a time of no other
guitars ) , I'll admit I'm tempted, although black ice with a roasted maple neck sounds like a cool custom order...I look forward to seeing the first run of them in real life.

Announced to the G&L dealers today:
The Back Ice Collection is Concluded.
We've decided it's time to wrap up the Black Ice Collection to make way for cool new things in the works. Of course, we will fill orders we have on hand.
It's been a great ride, and we'd like to thank all our G&L dealer friends for your support of the Black Ice collection.

It would be really good to have "no pickguard" reinstated as an option on the Asats...

Thanks, Craig, that's great.
I might try again! My dealer here couldn't order my Special without a guard a couple of years back, for some reason.
I'll ask him to enquire how the no-guard option is looking now.
