Thinking about using the Ilitch noise canceling system on my '97 Legacy. I saw another thread hear discussing many different ways to deal with noise but my situation is that I have zero time to spend on this. My kid brother is an expert at this kind of work (builds guitars from scratch - winds his own pickups etc) but I need to give him a kit because of his time constraints. So basically I can plop down the 200 bucks and I'm done (plus the cost of a different middle pickup).
S0 - I also need recommendations here for a regular polarity middle pickup which sounds similar to the stock one.
Is anyone here actually using this system?

I know (I think) new holes will have to be made in my perfect guitar, I don't care - it's for recording mainly and I don't ever plan to sell it. I play about 75% on the neck pickup and absolutely love the stock Legacy tone so do not want to get different (noiseless) pickups.
Comments? Suggestions?

Re: Thinking about using the Ilitch noise canceling system
get the back plate silent single coil system (suhr/ilitch), and with a super switch you can actually route it so the the middle pup gets the coil in reverse phase and the 2 and 4 humbucking positions are left alone. don't need a different middle pup.
here is an s500 that was done with a home made coil, but the switching principle still applies, your kid brother should be able to make sense out of it.

Okay - then report results back here.louis cyfer wrote:get the back plate silent single coil system (suhr/ilitch), and with a super switch you can actually route it so the the middle pup gets the coil in reverse phase and the 2 and 4 humbucking positions are left alone. don't need a different middle pup.

Hoping to get the Legacy back from my brother this weekend. Hoping for the same tone as before minus the noise. If it doesn't sound the same __ I'll rip the llitch right out and just live with the noise.

sorry bout that! Well, it didn't work. My brother said prob because my guitar was wired a bit differently than a standard strat? Bottom line though - I will get this guitar going quiet even if I have to ship it to the inventor himself. Sorry for not providing more details but I am the total non-tech and didn't understand exactly what he said so .... the quest will continue and I'll post results right here.zapcosongs wrote:Well? so even though I said
I didn't allow for it just plain not working right because of other circumstances.zandurian wrote: Hoping for the same tone as before minus the noise. If it doesn't sound the same __ I'll rip the llitch right out and just live with the noise.

something sounds fishy. if the guitar wasn't wired like a standard strat, why not wire it like one to get it working. then you can add the ptb or whatever other switching/pot combination you want. maybe a suhr qualified tech would be better than your brother.zandurian wrote:sorry bout that! Re: Thinking about using the Ilitch noise canceling system
Single coils are quite noisy fellows.
Is it possible, the 60 cycle hum was removed but the single coil picked up other interferences?
I own an S-500. My observations is while the in between position removes some of the hum, it doesn't remove all noise to where it is quiet. Other things in the room tend to get picked up.
Lights, monitors, anything with some magnetic flux.

I don't know how to link to my post here ... but just a few days ago I posted a schematic showing how I used the swimming pool route, a Superswitch and an Ilitch coil ... using standard PTB wiring and stock RWRP pickups. Works great.
Do a search on "Ilitch" to find it if interested.
