I have a Bluesboy from about 2001 or 02 and it has a very microphonic pickup. The Humbucker is loud when you tap on it. The guitar sounds great until you turn it up or engage an effect for a lead. I've been reading about pickup potting and think this may be a good candidate for the job. Has anyone else had a problem with feedback from these guitars? Any remedy suggestions?
Thanks
Mike

Re: ASAT Classic feedback
Hi Mike,
One thing to remember is that the HB on that guitar is not wax potted. It will be more microphonic than other PUPs. It's the nature of the beast.
As to what constitutes "normal" for this PUP I can't answer, but I do have several guitars with non-potted HBs and I love them.

Not true, the Seymour Duncan SL humbucker that G&L uses for the Bluesboy IS wax potted. See http://www.guitarsbyleo.com/AUTOREG/Rar ... p3#HISTRY2. I also confirmed with the factoryguitar_ed wrote:Hi Mike,

that all G&L pickups are wax potted. See How are G&L pickups currently made?

Thanks, I was hoping to hear from someone with the same problem. In the link to Gabe's response he mentions making sure everything is glued together well. What type of glue should be used. I think I need to go in and have a look around.

Re: ASAT Classic feedback
Well, I took the PUPs to Bill Fels at the Guitar Factory in Orlando. He's going to to pot them today and I'll get them back in the morning. Everything looks as it should under the pick guard. The date on the body is Aug 2001 and the neck has several markings but also says 2001. I'm taking this time to polish out some scratches and give everything a good cleaning. It's really a beautiful guitar being black on black with matching headstock and an ebony fretboard. Hoping to play a much improved guitar tomorrow.

Well, got everything back together and am enjoying a much better guitar. The pups are no longer microphonic. I cleaned up the bridge parts and paintwork and did a set-up on her and she sounds great. I was never able to bond with this guitar. I'm hoping that is about to change.

btw
Mine came with a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover Humbucker in the neck slot and I get a flawless, warm tone that I just love. No problems as yet; however I've only owned her for four months so who knows what the future may bring. That bridge pickup is also amazing; but it's a lot of work trying to control that trebley tornado. Of course one of the best know qualities of teles in general...nothing else twangs like that!

Re: ASAT Classic feedback
The feedback was being caused by the pups being microphonic. The problem was solved by re-potting them. Very nice sounding guitar.
