Anyone ever put a Super Vee on a Legacy

Post by Muleya »

Even though the tremolo bridges on my Legacy guitars do pretty well, they still don't hold tune as well as I'd like. I've got locking tuners, I've checked set up, use Big Bends Nut Sauce, and still have tuning issues...and we're talking fairly mild use of the bar...no dive bombs...we're talking Alex Lifeson tremolo use, like on the intro to Red Sector A.

There is both the Super Vee, which is double-locking, and the Blade Runner, which is not. I'm thinking the issue with my G&Ls is more related to the strings on the nut...since a tug on each string usually brings everything back in tune. So, while I like the simplicity and pricing of the Blade Runner, I'm thinking the it may not be much of an improvement...though I could be wrong about that.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with either the Super Vee or the Blade Runner on a G&L.

Or if you have experience with either on something other than a G&L, I'd be interested in hearing that, too.

Thanks!

Muleya, What size strings are you using? I think that you have identified the problem and I doubt that it is the trem and is probably the nut as you have suggested. Nut lubricants can help but will not necessarily solve tight nut issues. If you guitar is setup correctly, I would look more closely at the nuts. It is hard to believe that you have more than one with the problem and that is why I asked about the string gauge. These trems are very stable in my experience. I have found the Fender (both types) trems to also be stable. I have never replaced a factory trem.-- Darwin

+1 for what darwin says.

I think your strings are binding at the nut. I would get your tech to widen the slots a bit. Keep using the Nut Sauce. That'll help.

Well, string guage shouldn't be an issue...they come from the factory set up for 10s, don't they? And I use 9s. I guess I could have a tech look at it. I could also try SuperVee's SuperGlide lubricant...they claim it's much better than Nut Sauce...of course they would, but it might be worth $18 to try it!

Your '98 Legacy would have come from the factory with 9's and your 201x Legacy HB would have come with 10's.
See What gauge & brand of strings does G&L use on their guitars?

I, too, suggest you take it to your G&L tech and have it checked and setup to factory specs. If the nut is
the problem, a replacement nut should fix the problem for a lot less $$.

Just my $.02.
