Guitar Player contributor James Nash demos Korina ASATs

Post by Craig »

Posted today on the News page of the main G&L website:

Korina Collection gets taken for a test drive by Guitar Player.

Image

“Classic Tele snap and bite with varying degrees of Gibson-inspired fat midrange and thick lows.”
This is just one of the many flattering statements James Nash says while reviewing the G&L Korina
Collection in the Holiday 2011 issue of Guitar Player.

The review offers six pages of pics, specs, in-depth commentary and also a video demo (see below)
of all three guitars from our Korina collection, including the ASAT Classic Bluesboy, Deluxe II and Junior II.

Click here to view the complete review. And here's a little taste of what Guitar Player had to say:

ASAT Classic Bluesboy
“The combination of vintage neck depth with more modern radius and frets are immensely playable,
and the factory PLEK setup is stellar.”

ASAT Deluxe II
“I enjoyed flicking between all three pickup settings without ever feeling the need to tweak an amp
or step on a pedal.”

ASAT Junior II (Editors’ Pick!)
“Enormous tone brimming with sparkle and clarity, but with big-time fatness and lower midrange push,
and outstanding balance from neck to bridge. What’s not to like?”

And yes, I really want that ASAT Junior II. ;)

+1 - Me too! All all of ASAT Korina's sound great, but I think the ASAT Junior II has the most unique sound! 8-)

Great demo this one. Very tasty playing that lets the natural tones of the instruments shine.

Another thumbs up for the ASAT Jr II.

I can kinda see now why they opted for the tune-o-matic bridge.

Yeah, I was aware of his post and posted asking for the link to the video in that thread. jwebsmall was kind enough to
post it there and I then put it here so that others can view it from this sub-forum. Just doing my Admin job. :ugeek:

I agree: seeing and hearing it will surely create additional interest. It's kinda too bad that G&L
is only making 100 of each model. I see them as selling out for sure. :!:

Oh ya that's right. I did read that. Sorry Craig. Maybe this one should have had a link to that? This one appears to be unaware of the other.

If they are going through with the limiting part they definitely will sell out.

After handling one and seeing closeups of Ivo's with the new jack design which I had overlooked until then it makes me wonder why G&L decided to limit them to only 100 each. I know sometimes elements from these special design projects end up as main production features but these look more like an upgrade to G&L than just a unique configuration. IOW take the Korina and Pau Ferro away and what is left is a standard G&L but put together a little better in some ways and a lot better in other ways with some improved parts.

The pricing is within reach. I really have no business acquiring a guitar that I would not play frequently. The limited collection aspect is more of a deterrent in my case.

I would take any of the guitars (no basses) but either the Bluesboy or the ASAT Deluxe if I had to choose. I do not have a collection of guitars so there are basic vacancies.

I new I made the right choice, without testing it. Yes, sometimes you have to follow your instinct.
The Junior is very complementary to the rest of the gang.

I just read the article/review and was impressed. I was also a bit puzzled. The term MFD was not mentioned in connection with the Bluesboy bridge pickup, but MDF (sic) was mentioned in connection with the Junior's P-90's, which I thought were of traditional (not MFD) design. Is it just me? - ed

I saw it too when I read first read it. I thought maybe it was an 'in' joke - the MFDs on the ASAT Special are forever being labelled P90s, so why not label the P90s as MFDs! That'd drive the guys at G&L nuts
