Verdict Regarding Tone & Sustain: Equatorial G&Ls?

Post by Cobalt Blue »

Those of you who have played or who own any of the Equatorial Mahogany builds, how do they compare to your favorite G&Ls in regard to tone/sustain/et cetera?

I have a Bluesboy semi hollow Equatorial and compared it to two different Swampash semi hollows unplugged. The Equatorial is brighter and has more sustain and it has the Classic Bridge, the two others being Saddlelock. Both the others sound more bassey. The Equatorial is also louder. Plugged in, I would describe it as well balanced as it has the Alnico bridge pickup. I have nothing to compare it to plugged in as it is the only Bluesboy that I currently own. The Equatorial is also very light in weight and a lighter color than a traditional Mahogany. All of my semi hollow G&Ls tend to be lighter but this one weighs less than my Parker. I really like it and have owned two other Bluesboys, both with different pickups, a Seth Love setup/ MFD and the other neck humbucker that G&L used on the Special build model. . Tone is a matter of preference and I happen to like the alnicos as they are very sweet with overtones making them very rich. I will add that I wanted a gloss body and didn't know it was a thin skinned, satin finish until I opened the case. I believe the very thin finish has added to the unplugged tone and sustain. It has really grown on me. -- Darwin

Thank you very much.
I've been wanting to add an SC-2 to my very modest collection, and the Equatorial, because of its antithesis of super-thick poly and its maple fingerboard seems very attractive, but, of course, I want to make as informed a purchase decision as possible. Thanks again for your insight.

I'm guessing you're referring to this one. My finger has been hovering around the 'Buy it Now' button since I saw it on ebay - if I hadn't had a car accident last week ( ) I would own it!

Yes, that is the sweet girl, right there.

I send sympathy regarding the car accident.

Jamie, Cobalt Blue, I was at AGB today and checked this SC-2 out. It is a sweet one. If I didn't already have an SC-2 ??????????????????? I could be in trouble.-- Darwin

I almost wish I didn't know that. But seriously, thank you very much for the hands-on assessment.
