The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

What brand of locking tuners does G&L use?

Post by LiquidSmoke »

I see the USA ASAT has an option for locking tuners. Does anyone know what brand they use?

Thanks in advance!

See this post in our G&L Knowledgebase: What tuners are used on G&L guitars (USA models)?

Hope this helps.

They have been using two brands. Schaller and Sperzel. It depends what they have in stock during the build. I have both kinds and like either of them. They are both quality products. My 3 most recent builds have been Sperzels, all metal plate serial numbers. Hope that answers your question.-- Darwin

Thanks for the info. I was watching a YouTube video where the poster had to send back some locking Grovers he ordered because the post hole was too narrow for heavier gauge bass E strings (52 or 56, I forget). Since I like heavier gauge strings, this got me to athinkin'.

LS, if you buy any American G&L, you can replace the standard tuners with locking tuners of the same brand. They drop right in. I don't know how large of string size they will take as both brands have a hole that the string goes through but in looking at both, the Schaller has a larger hole on the low E. -- Darwin
