ASAT Classic lll Limited Edition

Post by ASAT ADDICT »

Hey Everyone, After about 9 years I'm back on the G&L Bus. My first purchased as of last week was a G&L ASAT Classic S Nearly Naked and I must say I love it!!!!!!! I am selling my PRS McCarty Soapbar to purchase more G&L's. I have someone that has a ASAT Classic lll in mint conditon that wants to trade it plus cash for my PRS.

What would be a fair price to give for the ASAT Classic lll and what is the general consensus on this model? Would I be better off looking at something newer? I figure I could get this and have money left over for a Bluesboy. :happy0065:

Thoughts?

Thanks.

The only difference between your NENA Classic 'S' and the Classic III is the middle pickup. The S-500 middle pup in the Classic 'S' adds even more mellowness to the sound than the ASAT Classic MFD you'll find in the Classic III. The latter is IMO also more strat sounding in the in-between settings than the Classic 'S', more than likely due to the similarity of the pups. I would certainly say it is worth it. And there aren't that many Classic 'III's of course because only 100 were produced in the first official release by the Custom Creations Department. But if 3-pup ASAT's are really you're thing, I would advise you to (also) look into an Leo-era ASAT III which has a complete set of S-500 pups.

For price, the Blue Book lists the Classic 'III' between $1,850 for an instrument in NEW condition to $1,350 for one in GOOD condition. MINT is listed as $1,800. The PRS McCarty Soapbar is listed between $1,850 for MINT to $600 for GOOD. So it entirely depends on the condition of your guitar. You can draw your own conclusions.

Hope this helps,

- Jos
