It's a decal of Leo's actual signature, see Leo Signature Series decal.

Hope this helps.

If you haven't already asked the shop to check the dates, I'd ask them to jot them down if the neck's off...

KenC,
I removed the neck and checked the dates before I dropped it off. The Neck is stamped Sep 98 and the body is stamped Oct 98 (don't remember the actual day's though). I should have taken pic's, dang it. Check out my latest posts on my NGD thread here with some more info. Thanks for the reminder though. :D

I'll check the dates next string change. It seems to have alot of earlier parts on it, like the pickguard.

Hiya,
Cool guitar you have there and nice story to go with it. From the looks of it I'd say it is a '92 and what some refer to as a transitional model - incorporating a mix of older and newer features. Once BBE took over after Leo's passing they started implementing manufacturing changes as well as using up older leftover parts... As JonC mentioned check out ggJaguar's site -the G&L instruments section is a great source of information.
Your guitar looks to have the satin finish on the back of the neck which they started using instead of gloss circa '92 - that's the main thing I've noticed. All the rest look like Leo-era parts - body, bridge, p/g, pu's etc... I dig that s/b finish + powered alum p/g. I'm a big fan of those.
I have a '90 ASAT Classic with a #4 neck - its taken me a while to get used to it as I'm used to the smaller profile #2 necks but I'm really digging it.
Thanks for posting the pics!
Cheers,
KF

I really like the #4 neck for alot of my songs, this guitar really his hard for my desert rock style. I play it through a boogie markiv. I really want to find another signature series in an s500 or comanche for my next axe.
