What Strings S500

Post by emergencysean »

Hi All,

I have just got my first American S500 serial no GO51715. Seems to play quite well but it needs a bit of setting up. I think some body has been trying to get the action rally low and it buzzez a bit on some of the frets. I am going to put it in a shop for a generic set up to start with but just wonderd if there is a general consensus on a good set of srtings to use.

I normally set my Strats up with 10s but I like to play a bit of classic rock, Hendrix, Chillis that type of stuff.

Anyway, opinions welcome. I will try and post a pick if I can as well so opinions on the wood would be nice. It is 1 piece, Ash im thinking.

Cheers

See What gauge & brand of strings does G&L use on their guitars?

Make sure that the tech at the shop you are taking it to for a "generic" setup uses the G&L setup specs, see Owner's Manual, Version 2.

I agree the body wood looks to be Swamp Ash.

Hope this helps.

Sure, G&L has it on the main site: PDF version of G&L Owner's Manual.

On all my G&Ls with the DF Vibrato I use the Fender Super Bullets, 9-42. The bullet end does help with tuning stability.

+1 ! - Fender Super Bullets are the way to go for tuning stability. I use 10-46 as I'm abit heavy handed.

I string all my Strat-style guitars with 9's. 10's seem too stiff with the tremolo systems.
