what color white???

Post by gman7 »

I'm looking at getting an ASAT Special. I defiantly want a white pearloid pick.gaurd. I think I want the body to be in "pearl white", or "Vintage White ", however it's hard tell by pics on the web. Comparing G&L's site with Pro Guitar Shops's site the same colors look different.

Pearl White looks like a really bright white on the G&L site. Then on PGS' website "Pearl white" looks more of an off white. I like the looks of the pearl white on PG's site. I'm looking for more of an off white color.

Then on G&L's site I like the looks of the "vintage white" , however on PGS' site vintage white looks too yellow, especially with a white pearloid pickgaurd. Can anyone suggest which color white i should get, or at least which website best represents the actual colors? Thanks so much!

The photos on the G&L site are pretty bad, the ones on PGS are good. Perhaps too good as they seem to pick all the right angles and lighting!

My pick of the whites on offer is Blonde.

Have you looked at the 30th Anniversary model? I have the 30th asat special and they are 'pearl white' with white pearloid pickgaurd, ebony fretboard
and maple neck! I love mine..
Check out G&L 30th anniversary guitars.

I would recommend using this site to review colors. The G&L builder give you the option to look at any color that G&L has available.--Darwin

My favorite is the transparent blonde, and the butterscotch blonde. BB is yellow, not white. The wood grain shows thru, and the blonde reminds me of a vanilla malt. Since the Fender Mary Kaye Strat of the 50's, this has been a first class finish.

The stark white, known as Olympic white, ala Jimi's Woodstock Strat, would yellow over time. Hence the G&L Vintage White. Warm, creamy, rich. Slightly more yellow than TB, plain with no wood grain. My VW Legacy has cream plastic, a tortoise guard, RW neck and a matching headstock. Gorgeous!

Pearl white is a whiter, cooler tone than VW. Iridescent, sometimes picking up blue or pink tones. If VW is rosewood, PW is ebony.

I prefer the visible wood grain of the transparent finishes, but you can't go wrong with any of them.
