New to G&L - need some input!

Post by mumu »

Hello all:

I'm new to both G&L and this forum - looks like a good resource. I'm asking for a bit of input with the S-500 I bought from a guy on Craigslist today for US$550.00. I have visited the G&L registry and from what I can tell I'm the proud parent of a 2004-ish S-500 made in the U.S. based on the CLF* serial number prefix. Having owned and sold an American Standard Strat some years ago I can say that this guitar is light years beyond the Strat for my playing style. I absolutely love it. Here are some pics.

There ya have it. If any of you have suggestions, input or anything else to offer to help better pinpoint the year of production, etc. for this guitar I'm all ears!

Welcome! :greet:

Very nice looking Honeyburst S-500!

Check out the G&L Knowledgebase.

You will find these as starters:

How do I determine an instrument's age?
Serial number significance

Also, please do add your guitar to our G&L Registry, too.

Hope this helps.

+1 congratulations!
Sweet looking guitar!
And yes, G&L's are light years better, I totally agree. In some obvious ways, and some more subtle, all adds up to great instruments.

Thanks! I'll try to post more pics soon.

I'm using an Egnater Tweaker 40 head through an Egnater 2x12 cabinet. Effects, for what little I use them, are a Line 6 M13 board mainly for some reverb, delay and overdrive when needed. The M13 is probably the cleanest, most "unintrusive" effects processor I've used for the price. No discernible tone degradation. Any time line effects like delay and reverb are sent through the amps effects loop, with overdrives and compression wired up front (the M13 has a pretty complex wiring arrangement allowing for separation of effects pre- or post depending on how you set it up). The single coils on the S-500 aren't nearly as noisy as the Fender I used to own.
