NGD!!!! Lucky Me! New Asat Classic "S"

Post by coloradojeff »

Just got my 19 year old ASAT classic back from the shop the other day (minor tune up, the guys at Woodsong's Lutherie in Boulder, CO are outstanding. It plays and looks better than new)

Drove from Colorado down to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area to attend the Bedford Blues and BBQ Festival this weekend and just happened to wander by Grapevine Guitar Works. Found a new special edition 2012 ASAT Classic "S"... one of the Nearly Naked Honey Ale models with the S-500 pickup in the middle... What incredible tone!!!
It just had to come home with me. In addition to great guitars, I think it's a sign of real class that G&L still provides a quality wood case with their guitars instead of the cheap ones some other makers provide.

I even broke down and bought a custom made tooled leather strap for it that was made by local leather master R.M Kilpatrick....then I spotted a honey colored alligator strap by the same artist and bought it too. I figure I'll put the tooled leather one on the old G&L and the alligator strap on the new one.

I think NGDs are some of the best days of life...wheeeeee

The carved leather strap must look really good with the guitar finish!

What does the ASAT Classic S sound like the in the middle positions?

The middle pickup sounds very much like a Stratocaster. That's one of the features that drew me to the S. I am primarily a blues player using a SRV Strat., mostly on the middle pickup... The guys I've been playing with switch music styles all through the set, requiring a frequent change of guitars. I'm thinking the new ASAT will allow me to get both blues and country tones. I'll post and let people know.

I'll post pictures as soon as I can figure out how to do it.
