The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.
Today I ventured out to American Guitar and had the new ASAT Classic Launch Butterscotch/Swamp Ash in my sights. I waked in and was going to look at the Classic and I noticed a Classic Launch Pine Edition that had just arrived. It had just hit the wall as it was built 7/23/2012. What can I say, it was love at first sight. I looked at it carefully and played it. The pine body is spectacular and the neck has mineral deposits in it to match the dark streaks in the pine. It is now in captivity and Ginny is not impressed as it is not Red! She thinks it looks like many of my others. This color is awesome(Autumn Burst) and is class to the max. This thing is light, has a belly cut on the back and the setup was superb from the factory, one of the best I have received. Low action to my liking. Here are some photos.
and the neck has mineral streaks in it but not too visible in the photo.
Congrats Darwin! It looks great! How does it sound? I've never played a Pine body guitar. Ginny will get used to it.. Soon you're going to have to build another guitarrack in the garage though!!
You shouldn't mind it is not red this time! Nor should Ginny Great pickups aren't they? I only know because I got prototype CLF064600 today and played all evening. Could you measure the DC-resistance of the pups on your ACA? I just PM'ed Craig with my values.
Have fun man, because these guitars just sound great! LonesomeCraig and johnnyqb had already whet my appetite in the G&L announces ASAT Classic Alnico ... post. Anyway, I don't want to steal your thunder; I can show off mine when I do the LR in slightly ore than a month.
Thanks folks, I haven't played it much but it is resonant. It is not as hot as the standard classic pickup sound but is very chimey, rich overtones and an extremely wide range of tone. They are some of the sweetest I have ever heard. Jos, I am gigging all weekend but will do a DC resistance check sometime next week. -- Am waiting to see your new one!-- Darwin
Jos, I just checked the resistance of the Alnico's. The neck is 7.24 k and the bridge is 7.26 k. Is that similar to what you read? We test drove this thing a bit this weekend and it sings!-- I will pm Craig.-- Darwin
