Thanks guys I really do love the guitar , kind of wish I would have ordered a rosewood fret board but the maple plays really nice. I just prefer rosewood even thought he maple looks better.

I have a question does G&L make any pickups that come close to the sound of the Fender widerange pickups? I like the seth lover but the more I played it I realized I would like a little more of a vintage tone out it.

Hi David,

From where I sit, the Seth Lover is about as a vintage a sound as you are going to find, short of a real 1950's PAF. Seth Lover is the man who designed the humbucker in the first place. If he does not know what he's doing........

You know what you maybe right I have been playing through my new bad cat and I guess that maybe the issue I am having. I was very surprised when I plugged in and got a very mid modern vintage sound out of seth lover. I have never used these pickups before but I am very familiar with the fender widerange and seth designed that pick so to hear the difference is very alarming. I am going to do some AB test and see what I can come up with. I am going to badcat on tuesday so that will just have to be added to the list of tweaking.

so i went back and spent some more time with the guitar. I do like this guitar quite a bit but I am just not in love with the seth lover I guess I just prefer the widerange bucker. The seth sounds much more thick with a little bit of a honky tone. I wouldn't say I don't like this pickup I just prefer fender vintage to gibson vintage. The seth was model after the original 59 hums, but he did also create the wide range buckers for fender in the 70's and if anyone has ever played the wrhb they are worlds apart.

Right now my option is to either mod the guitar with a wrhb or possibly trade it for a legacy and just get a 72 deluxe. I would possibly just keep the guitar but I don't see myself using it live with out modding it. Unfortunately I dont have the money to just keep guitars around for fun all of my current gear serves a purpose.

i didn't care much for the seth lover either. i put in a bare knuckle mq p90. much better. the fralin p92 is closer to a wide range as well. a few people make wide range replicas as well.

i agree with louis, i have a bareknuckle waiting to go into my future bluesboy and my friend has the fralin p-92 in his BB because the tone is so reminiscent of his 72s wideranges that he had to give up.

also louis what do you use in the bridge to mesh with the MQ ?

i use a fralin steelpole 43 i the bridge, basically a p90 in a tele size pup. i liked the mfd original in the bridge, but it was very microphonic, so i put in the fralin. same exact construction as an mfd actually, just alnico magnet.
