Let's talk about the George Fullerton Model.

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Let's talk about the George Fullerton Model.

Post by Champagne »

I love mine.

I'm sad to see that they are long gone as a current inventory item.

Is the GF model well-thought of amongst players and collectors?

Let's talk about this model in this thread. Pros and Cons (if any).

Thanks.

Small frets don't bother me.

I adore mine... the small frets just add to the sweet airy vintage tone. My only complaint is the lack of tone control on the bridge pickup, but that goes with the true vintage circuit it's honoring. Has the BEST woodwork out of all of my G&L's. They're all great, but my Fullerton feels like someone took more time with it. I bought a Legacy to stop me wearing out my Fullerton!

Do you believe that the size of the frets affect the tone?

I'd say the small frets certainly contribute to a slight tone alteration. (Obviously feels different). But the Fullerton has the soft V neck & different circuit to the Legacy, so there's a few other things going on. Certainly adds up to a more "vintage" sounding instument.

I've had chances to buy them several times but never pulled the trigger on one. Reality is, I owned a 1960 Strat, and I prefer the modifications of the Legacy. I like the bigger frets and I think the PTB controls are superior. To each his own. The GF is a great guitar, but I like the Legacy, S-500, Legacy Special and Comanche models better.

I agree with Bill above that the PTB is a great improvement. But I have to admit that I love my George Fullerton and play it most often of all my Legacy models. The difference in the tone controls and the smaller frets just means you approach this guitar differently. And I like the vintage V-neck on mine too.
