First recording on my '97 Legacy (Blues - Stormy Monday)

Just now rediscovering my childhood (late 50's early 60's) blues roots. The Legacy is helping! Yes - I was only 3 in 1960 BUT my mom had me listening to this stuff day and night!

Thanks - glad you liked it, had a BLAST recording it. No joke - this G&L has been life changing because it's inspiring me to play lead guitar again. Nothing I've ever played has a more expressive tone and feel. I hope to get a bunch more G&L guitars before I'm done.

Nice feel there, glad your enjoying your legacy, I play through my Bassman 10 quite a bit, an underrated amp in IMO, what speakers do you have in it? I pulled out the origionals, they were beat to hell! I replaced them with Celestion BL-10s for when I use it for bass, and for guitar work I plug into a seperate 4X10 cab loaded with Celestion greenbacks.

Thanks. I know I have much to learn but have always had a decent feel for the bendy/blusey style. The hardest thing for me is the patience to stay calm enough to develop a solo. Way too ADHD-ish for that to come naturally. Plus I don't know a lot of the standard licks blues players are supposed to play (I learned a few while working on this song). I hope to master those classic licks somewhat and try to add my own variations.

One reason I quit playing lead (late teens) is I heard so many people doing this lightening fast stuff (WITH feel) that I didn't have the skill level for (no matter how much I practiced) and really it's what I wanted to play like. Of course now I'm stunned by the number of speedsters out there which lack any feel at all. It's like a typist who can type 200 wpm, it's impressive but not something I can get into watching for more than a minute or so.

I admit I still love a player who can hold back and play with tons of feel and then work into some dazzling speed runs as a song progresses. WOW! So I'll keep right on practicing and maybe when I grow up.... ;)

My Bassman 10 has 2 original speakers and two replacement Jensens (not sure which) but the guy I bought it from said he tried to match the tone of the originals as much as possible. Of course - he couldn't find any 32 ohm 10" guitar speakers (lol) but he still wired it to come out to 8 ohms. I also had some compression and light tube screamer in the chain. I also chose my old 80's crown PZMs (!) for the recording because I have a decent room and they sounded very open compared to my standard close miking with a '57 or ribbon. Used one close and one room and added a little echo and verb ITB.

Enjoyed that as well! Can you talk about what all you used to record that with?

EDIT: I saw your mic stuff. How about the actual recording interface? Was that digital? PC or MAC? What software?
Thanks in advance!

I gotta' give some credit to the Seventh Circle Neve clones - some very nice preamps. The interface is a Black Lion modded MOTU 24i/0 (analog section and clock upgraded - can't say enough about the folks as Black Lion. They do good things).
Recorded on MOTU's Digital Performer on an Mac G5 (intel).
