The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.
I contacted Steve Grom at G&L about this and here is his reply:
Hi Craig,
We made what I think is a one time purchase of some spalted alder body blanks. We offered about 20 instruments to selected dealers
and they could select the model, neck and finish they wanted. We have pretty much finished all the orders and it's a really interesting
mix of instruments.
We decided not go into the Custom Creations world with these. We wanted to keep it fairly simple.
Let the folks know to keep an eye open with some of the better G&L dealers for the spalted alder models.
In addition, we have put up on the G&L web site photos of a number of sample/proto instruments that are either up for sale (to dealers) or
have been sold (if the instrument is sold we will indicate the dealer who has it)
There are more of these being added to the gallery all the time
Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions.
I love the wood, but not the pick guard. This kind of figure needs to be exposed all the way around. I do prefer the look of a black pick guard on a solid-color ASAT Classic though.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the white/black/white & black/white/black plastic pickguards. They have a cheapnis(thanks Mr. Zappa) to them. On vintage S/T's it's cool, but much prefer a bakelite, one color guard or powder-coated aluminum... Or none at all.

indeed. i think steve grom or whoever decided the pg should be turning themselves in, and await the firing squad to carry out the rightful sentence.
The dealer was the one who spec'd and ordered the guitar. The factory built what was ordered.
