"A" sting buzz on frets 2 through 6

Post by FidgetStone »

I just got 2000 vintage ASAT Classic off of eBay that I love the sound of. However, now that I had a week or so to get used to it, there is most definitely a buzz on the A string from fret s 2- 6. I am now on vacation and haven't even tried different strings yet. Would fret wear be the only culprit or are ther other common things I can check?

I may have been bitten by eBay a little but the guitar still smokes. My church rock band bandmates love the tone, and it a great complement to my Legacy 2HB. These two guitars cover a lot of ground.

Thanks for your input . . . .,

Have a tech look at it, it could be a number of things. Buzzing in the middle of the fretboard is most likely going to be a truss rod adjustment (neck is probably backbowed), buy if the frets haven't been leveled and dressed that could be the issue as well. Unless the neck is warped (in which case you would need a new one) it's not going to cost much. Some places will adjust the truss for free if they know you.

Either way, it's something you want to have an expert look at, if you're not 100% sure you know exactly what you're doing. And the fact that you asked here, means you probably don't.
