Is a Custom made G&L ASAT III possible?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Is a Custom made G&L ASAT III possible?

Post by joshuacacavas »

Hey guys,

I have recently become HOOKED on the G&L guitars...beautiful sounds and great hardware!

Yet, I am curious to know...would it be possible to custom-order the G&L ASAT III that they used to stock, back in the 90s.

I love that TWANG that it provides!

Obviously knowing that it will cost a-bit more...not concerned about that, am just hoping it can be done!

Many thanks, guys!

Hi Joshua,

I cannot answer your question whether they can built you an ASAT III by custom order. You should check with your nearest G&L dealer and they will be able to find out.

But for now there happens to be a Leo-era ASAT III on sale on daBay that has been returned to stock after it had undergone some modifications. If that guitar is as advertised it might be something you want to keep your eye on. The S/N is included in the registry and jibes with Leo-era ASAT III's but since it does not have the 'pre-BBE' tag in the comment block it does not show up in the Rarebird section. Owning a couple myself, these maple bodied ASAT III's sound amazing.

Hope this helps,

Hey! Thanks heaps for the help! Yeah, they're the best! I prefer them more to the 1952 Tele's,etc...a fuller sound, as far as I'm concerned!

Yeah... I managed to find a G&L dealer in Sydney...so, regardless that I live In Melbourne...it would be a much safer bet purchasing it from Sydney than from the US!

How would you compare these ASAT III's to the Tele's? You rather the ASATS', too?

Kind Regards!

Hey Josh, I'm a Melburnian too  Check out 5 Star Music in Ringwood, they are a G&L dealer. They always have at least one US G&L in stock, and would probably match the price of the Sydney dealer.

Hello,

Not exactly the same thing but quite near (mostly bridge aside), G&L seems to be offering the ASAT Classic S.

You might want to try out an ASAT Z-3 as an alternative. The bonus is that you could then
build a custom pickguard with S-500 pickups and swap out the original one.
Check out the ASAT Z-3.

Hope this helps, too.

Hey guys,

sorry for the late reply! Awesome tips from you all! :)

Oh...that does sound great! A Z-3 ASAT with a custom scratchplate! :)...It would sound the same too, considering...the
Pups are really the only difference...

Thanks for that, Craig!

Kind Regards, guys!
