ASAT Special Pickups

Post by coreyp »

I recently bought my first ASAT. It's a Special built in the early 90's and I'm wondering if the Special pickups in these things are the same over the years. If I buy one from G&L now, will it be the same as the ones they used back then? Sorry for my novice question....but I need to replace the bridge p/u.

Thanks

Yes, the pickups are the same. Though the winding process has changed from
hand wound to machine wound, but the DC-R remains the same (approx. 5.0K).
See this post in our G&L Knowledgebase: How are G&L pickups currently made?

You didn't mention why you need to replace the bridge pickup. You might
read these posts, in case they apply to your pickup:
How do I fix MFD bridge pickup squealing problem?
My MFD went massively microphonic! Suggestions?

If the pickup needs rewinding you might search the internet using "pickup rewinding services" in your favorite search tool.

Hope this helps.
