Ooops. Please tell me, did I get taken on my Legacy?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Ooops. Please tell me, did I get taken on my Legacy?

Post by wrxplayer »

Hi all,

I was a veteran of the old board and just re-registered. Hoping you can answer an easy one for me.

I just received a Legacy in the mail in a swap for one of my guitars. I've owned several G&Ls before, USA and Tribute (this is meant to be a USA) and each of the USA guitars had its serial number on the back of the headstock. As you see here, no serial number on the headstock. There is one on the three screw neck plate.

Perhaps this is how they made them before they went to the four screw neck plate. I hope that's the answer.

FYI, she serial number on the neck plate is G046937.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You will be very happy to know that you definitely got a USA model and it
was built prior to 1998. See Serial number significance
and When and why did G&L switch to a four-bolt neck?.

Any chance of seeing the front of this guitar?

Welcome back to the G&LDP (V2.0)!

My 1994 Legacy has the serial number on the neck plate too.
The first place for serials has been the bridge, then it wandered up to the neck plate and now it's on the head stock. :)

This is true for the Legacy model. However, from 1980-1983, G&L instruments had the serial number stamped on the bridge.

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Took some quick pics and they're below. Hard to shoot a black guitar inside. For a guitar that's apparently a minimum of 15 years old, it's awfully clean. I believe it came w/ white knobs and pickup covers. Previous owner switched them to black and removed p/u covers (I have them and will put them on.

Neck may be a little thin for my tastes. Needs a setup and I won't do anything until that's completed.

One more question: It didn't come w/ a trem bar. Does anyone know whether the current standard trem bar would fit this or would I need to retrofit the "hole" piece?

Thanks again.

No, the current trem bar is a slightly smaller diameter. G&L does sell both the current one
and the one for yours. Here's the link to the G&L On-Line Store's page for the one you need:
Vibrato arm for USA G&L (late 80's through 2005).

Thanks for posting the pictures and when you get a chance please add your Legacy to our G&L Registry.

Hope this helps.
