Ordering Asat Classic Custom help

Post by grock8 »

Hi,
I'm new to this forum.
After playing lots of telecasters at the guitar shop, G&L was the best for me.
So I decided to order G&L Asat Classic Custom.
I'm trying to decide what options to choose for a nice finish and features.
This is what I have in mind:

Neck Profile #1 "C Shape Classic"
Lemon Drop Finish
Locking Tuners
Maple Fingerboard
G&L Saddle Lock Bridge
White Perloid 3-Ply Pickguard
White Pickup Covers

Is this combination goes well ?
I've wanted the natural gloss, but I feel the need for some color with this finish, so lemon drop looks pretty nice.
any advices?
any pictures of lemon drop or something else?

Thanks !

Hi grock8,

There are a couple of specs that might be problematic together. An ASAT Classic Custom has a Tele-style MFD in the bridge and a wide-bobbin MFD in the neck. With this bridge pup, which makes the model an ASAT Classic and is mounted in a 6-saddle steel box bridge, opting for a Saddle-Lock bridge might be impossible. At least I do not recall having seen an ASAT Classic of any kind with a Tele-style bridge pup and a Saddle-Lock bridge and no examples of pre-2002, post-2002, and semi-hollow ASAT Classic Customs have been registered in the Registry. Also, I have never seen an ASAT Classic of any kind with a white bridge pickup cover, not even on the ASAT Classic 'S' where frequently middle and neck pickup covers are white but still with a black bridge pickup cover. It might not be impossible to get a white bridge pickup cover, but you'll have to ask your dealer.

None of these would be problems at all if you are talking about the ASAT Special. But then again, that is a different beast.

Hope this helps,

- Jos

Hi,
my dealer offered me this Saddle Lock bridge... I'll ask him tomorrow to verify.

would this Asat Special better than Asat Classic ?
I play mostly blues and country.

both amazing guitars. I think you may just have your terminology screwed up.

Here's a view of the different types of guitars

http://www.glguitars.com/instruments/US ... /index.asp

Click the top blue link as well to see samples of the colours, there is a nice lemondrop example in there with the same pickguard that you want.

Question is do you want a tele type (asat classic with ashtray) or a Special (large MFD pups with saddlelock)

the saddle lock is not an available option on anything asat classic. your dealer has the terminology mixed then.

Where are you located and which G&L dealer are you working with?

There is only one bridge type for the ASAT Classic Custom.

so you were right(doesn't surprise me)... He thought it might be possible, but talked to G&L and the answer is no.
I ended buying 2 G&L Guitars ! Bluesboy Semi Hollow(2-tone sunburst, rosewood fretboard) and S-500(Honeyburst, Light Tint Gloss Neck, Locking Tuners, Maple Fingerboard, White Pearloid pickguard and white pickup covers).
The bluesboy will arrive at Thursday, and the S-500 is special order, will arrive in 12 weeks.

Thanks!
The Bluesboy arrived today. Great Guitar !!
The sound is incredible from that seth lover, and the mfd pickup on the bridge, very nice tele tone.

Just wanted to check couple of things with you:
1. what should I get inside the hard case ? Only the guitar was there. I thought that should be some king of signed paper on the year of manufacturing or so...
2. Does the seth lover pickup should be mounted in diagonally (slopping..) ? never seen humbucker pickup that mounted like this.

Do you have any recommendations on how to clean the guitar(daily cleaning, and restringing cleaning).

You should have gotten a black folder with the Certificate of Authenticity, a Warranty Card,
a plastic bag with the case keys, a plastic bag with a set of allen wrenches, and at least one
Custom Build Specification Certificate (see Why 2 copies of the Custom Build Specification Certificate?).
There might also be some hang tags and a G&L sticker, too.

Did you look inside the big case pocket? :searching:

If you did not receive any of these, check back with the selling dealer and ask about them.
Also, the pickup might have shifted during shipping. If the dealer is close, take it to them so
they can re-adjust it.

I use a water dampened micro cloth for cleaning after use and then a dry micro cloth to finish up.
I have not used any fretboard cleaners/conditioners during string changes, but I, too, am interested
in what others use.

Hope this helps.

those are there to adjust to your liking. they get messed up during transport all the time. you should check the truss rod/relief, action and intonation. even when adjusted at the factory, climate change, humidity fluctuations during transport effect those.

how long have you been playing guitar?

same as single coils. adjust the 2 screws. you also have to adjust it for balance between the 2 pups.
if you don't mind me asking, where are you from, english is not your first language?

I'll try it today, and see if I can handle it.

You are right, English is not my first language, even so I'm trying to learn to write properly.

That looks very odd. I have a Bluesboy semi, bought new, and the neck Seth Lover is parallel to the strings
