Why are G&L cases so tight?
I've had several Legacy guitars, with their original cases, and noticed that all of the cases fit very tight - the top of the cases press down very tight on the guitars, making it a little difficult to close the latches. Just curious if this was a specific design plan from G&L for some reason?

hmm, i haven't noticed a huge difference, most of my cases are very tight, a good case should be, in order to hold the guitar firmly. the complaint should be if the case fit loose, and the guitar moves around.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the posts, everyone. It's good for a case to be snug, but I've never had cases that pressed down so hard on the neck and body of the guitar, making it actually a challenge to close the latches, so I wanted to check that with G&L Nation!

a few cases where the channel that goes around for the top and bottom to fit into each other is not quite right, and does make latching difficult.
does it push hard on the headstock, or the body? when brand new they can be very tight as well, some loosening is expected.

Re: Why are G&L cases so tight?
Thanks, Louis - the top lid pushes down very hard on the head, neck and body, and it's actually tough to close the latches, and I end up usually only closing one or two latches. It has been this way on three different Legacys that I've had in the past few months. I'll live with it, but it almost feels like I might be hurting the guitar when I try to close all three latches...

My Comanche case (not knowing if it is orig.) has G&L on it,is almost to small, headstock just fits in.I wonder if this is in anyway what your talking about.I bought a flight case for it and now its looks very comfortable abd tight.

Re: Why are G&L cases so tight?
Yes, the headstock barely fits in, and the top lid of the case presses down quite tightly on the body and neck of the guitar, so that it's actually hard to close all three latches. It's been this way with three Legacys that I've had in past months - they all came with their original cases, and all were so tight like this. Not a major issue, I guess, but I was just curious if G&L really is intentionally making them this tight, and if there's no harm in the top lid pressing down so hard on the neck and body...

Which case(s) are you having this problem? See: Can you describe the various instrument cases G&L used/uses?.fenderfan wrote:Thanks, Louis - the top lid pushes down very hard on the head, neck and body, and it's actually tough to close the latches, and I end up usually only closing one or two latches. The current Deluxe Tolex cases are excellent.

Yes, they are very good cases - I'm just curious about why the top lid pushes down so tight on the guitar, making it a little challenging to actually close and latch. I have noticed this on three Legacys that I have purchased in the past few months, all with the very nice hard tolex case with the G&L logo that is pressed into the top of the case.

That's the old hard plastic case.all with the very nice hard tolex case with the G&L logo that is pressed into the top of the case.
The new tolex cases do not have a G&L logo pressed into the top. They have a small logo tag under the handle.

Re: Why are G&L cases so tight?
That was actually in reference to the hard plastic...the nice cases that have the molded shape of the Legacy inside, like the one in the sample photo that I took off the web. The last three Legacys I purchased all had this type of case...you have to press down so hard when closing the top lid that you're really pushing on the guitar itself, and the latches are actually hard to close.
Just curious about this - the guitars themselves..of course...are beauties.

I know it might be late to post but this is a very interesting thread.
If I'm not mistaken, the Molded Plastic G&L cases had the standard interior lenght to fit Fender Strats and Teles?

Re: Why are G&L cases so tight?
Interesting comments but this is the old molded case which fits Asats and Legacy types. I am assuming the original poster was removing the trem handle as that will cause it to be difficult to close. These cases have very little room above the headstock and the neck channel can be quite tight. It will not put pressure on the headstock so that shouldn't be the issue. Mine close okay and I have noticed that these cases are sometimes difficult to latch but it is caused by the felt from the case interior folding into the aluminum channel seam/channel, making it difficult to close the latches. On the other hand several of my new Tolex cases are very tight and the guitar has to be firmly pushed down before it will close and even then it is difficult. If the guitars were stored in the cases, I believe the foam will conform to the guitar. My cases always sit empty so they never get broke in as such. Any case that has a molded logo is the old style case and there is a thread explaining when the transition happened. -- Darwin
