ASAT classic bluesboy finish

Post by bintang »

Hi
I have an ASAT special in natural finish but am thinking of
a bluesboy semi-hollow buy
can G&L make a natural top (clear) finish with a colored body finish
with a white top binding in between ?
the Aussie distributor says he doesn't think so

I'm thinkin they would :)
should be no drama yeah ???

thanks

Well I might forget it
Cant contact G&L directly to ask them and the
Australian distributer doesn't seem to interested in helping
probably is not worth his while
after all he has other interests and G&L would not be a big seller
in Australia
Seems to me that fender dominates the market here
not easy to get hold of a G&L USA guitar
Fabulous guitars though - they deserve more sales

If you can get one - buy it !!!
thanks to all who replied :)

I'm not sure, but I bet you could order a solid body bluesboy in natural gloss which is a premium finish. That would come with a swamp ash body.

That you could do, now you might be able to order a maple cap on it and if that's a go, you could ask for a natural binding.

Not sure about the back being painted a solid colour though, you may have the whole thing natural gloss, like an asat special deluxe.

Interesting, I would suggest putting in an order from the dealer and see if the factory accepts it.

Good Luck

You can; I've seen two of them. One semi-hollow w/ f-hole & one solid body.

Remember, we are atleast 12 hours behind you folks down under.

I emailed your post to Steve Grom (Director of Manufacturing) and here is his reply:
Hi Craig,

These types of "one off" request can be difficult from the standpoint of the customer having an idea of how they see an instrument and making sure that idea is communicated 100% accurately to the factory. My concern is saying yes and then somehow not get all the details from either the consumer, distributor, our export sale dept. or the person on our side creating the order.

We will not create a special finishing process for just one instrument.

Thanks

Steve Grom
Not necessarily the answer you wanted but an answer directly from G&L.

But that's not what the OP was looking for. He wants a clear natural top on a color finished
back. The one you linked to is all clear natural finish.

BTW, did you snag the Sea Foam Green SH? There is no link to a photo.

:ugeek:
As a followup question, I asked Steve what would be a minimum quantity necessary
to create a special finishing process?

His reply:
For something like this we would need to have orders for at least 10 instruments
that would incorporate a new process. They wouldn't have to be the same color; this is
more of working out the details of any new process

Thanks

Steve
Hope this helps.

Easy tiger... The guy stated "natural top (clear) finish", Bluesboy & semi-hollow. Are the finishes on G&L's not clear? Of course, with the exception of stains/exposed wood grain types?

"can G&L make a natural top (clear) finish with a colored body finish

there are many natural finish g&l's, but that was not the op's point. reading can be a blessing sometimes.

You guys are awesome !

I'm a bit disapointed - seems easy enough to do
but G&L would have to consider costs in production which is fair enough

Maybe it's an idea though - to produce a run of 2-tone instrruments sometime

thank you very much all who replied - much appreciated

:)
