Late LR - Tuesday April 3rd

Post by astutzmann »

Sorry I'm late today, went out and played horrible golf this morning.

Golf really is a good walk spoiled.

Lunch was a 1/2 club sandwich after the golf, with fruit instead of fries.

Thanks for all the ideas yesterday,

Next up is my 2007 legacy which I bought used.

Image

Previous owner (are you on the forum??), put in a graphtec nut, dimarziodp184 in the bridge and did a professional setup.

Antique or vintage white with white pickguard.

Of course, I can't leave it alone so,

Image

cream pup covers, Tortice shell pickguard (sorry Louis).

This legacy as the satin, 12 degree neck and is by far the fastest and nicest neck on any guitar I have. Plays beautifully.

Currently my favourite guitar because of the way it plays. I am not thrilled with the neck and middle pickup on the legacy, but they are not bad either, just not as nice as say an S-500. I might change them, but really don't know what I want for it, so it'll probably stay. I'm very happy with the dimarzio.

G&L question,

Of all your G&Ls, which is your favourite but also let me know why? In my case it the legacy because its great to hold and has the best neck. I don't play it the most, interestingly, but its my favourite, a real keeper. I bet I'd like an s-500 even more, hmmm.

Non G&L question

You all have G&Ls and this is a G&L fan boy site, but do you have a favourite non G&L guitar and why? Is it more favourite than your G&Ls? Come on, fess up!

Alf, you are right about golf. A person cannot take themselves too seriously while golfing or the wheels really come off the wagon. I became a better golfer when I quit trying so hard.

Lunch was special today. I had some Sardines in oil with a piece of apple pie. Do I get a prize for eating healthy????

The G&L question I would have answered differently two years ago. I had Two Vintage White Legacys (Twins) with the Vintage White pickguards and I thought they were the most beautiful G&Ls on the planet. They both had rosewood fingerboards. I remember telling Ginny that they were permanent in this house. They are on the left and the right in the photo.

Now the only guitar that I own in that photo is the Mary Kaye with the gold hardware. I still think Vintage White is beautiful and that leads into my next answer. I originally had only Fenders. Next I had some high end Ovations and an Adamas. I discovered G&L. I now have 13 different brands and I cannot say that I have an all time favorite. Every one of them is a favorite for their own reasons. If I had to pick one guitar, I would have a problem because there is not one that I could choose as the ultimate. So I cannot answer the question, "what is my favorite and why".

Your Vintage White Legacy is beautiful and the Tortoise PG gives it some contrast but a Vintage PG is tough to beat!--Darwin

Hi Darwin:

I agree, your vintage white pickguard and cream covers and knobs is very nice.

I just had a problem with the vintage white body and the all white pickguard, didnt do it for me. If he tortise didnt work, vintage white or cream was it!

#1 Guitar around here is the 82 S-500, it's gets 90% of all my play time, Why you ask? those squared end MFDs and a whole lot of MOJO!

Image

Favorite non G&L would be the T-60, mainly because it's a total different feel and tone compared to the 500 but reminds me a lot of the early G&Ls, Nice solid peice of swamp ash great neck, solid bridge, just an all around quality guitar at a great price point, again, just like the early G&Ls.

darwin, that mary kay is spectacuklar indeed. the g&l twins would have been with a vintage tint maple neck.
alf, so was the legacy, although i agree, the vintage white is best with the cream guard and covers. if i get a legacy i will be changing the pups for sure. either d allens or klein jazzy cats with an s8 bridge.

My fave. Why? "Mojo" :D

As for other guitars, my Jerry Jones (a well built Danelectro style) is a great playing, sounding and feeling guitar.

My favorite G&L is my first. An F-100. Even though it's not the best for a lot of what I am doing right now.

A non G&L that I don't think I could ever part with is my Martin C-15. It's a workhorse. Kinda like me, good at everything, and great at nothing!

I have 2 G&L guitars, an LE and a 1990 SC-3. They both are great playing and sounding guitars. I am playing the SC-3 more because in my hobby band we play a couple songs that I needed whammy bar for, the LE does not have a whammy. And it seems excessive to be bringing more than one guitar and switching depending on the song.

I don't consider myself a fanboy for G&L, I find some guitars from other companies every bit as good as my G&L. I just keep the best playing and sounding guitars no matter who makes them. Some of my favorites other than my 2 G&Ls are my Heritage H535, my Yamaha SG1500 and the Melancon Pro Artist.

My favorite G&L tends to be the most recent one through the door, but if the collection stays stagnant for a while the '82 S-500 and '86 ASAT percolate back up to the top. Currently I am completely in love with a mahogany '81 L-2000E (I am really a bass player, after all!). It happens to be the most recent addition, but I have a feeling it will remain #1 for a while.

My favorite non-G&L is a Fender hybrid bass I put together in high school and college. It's a late 70s Jazz body with a '69 Precision neck and Dimarzio J Bass pickups I found used in '81 or '82. Aside from sentimental value, the bass just has an incredible sound.
