Anybody tried Rio Grande ASAT pickups?

Post by Ches »

I'm curious if anyone here has tried the ASAT pickups from Rio Grande. I'm thinking about giving them a try if they have a softer/rounder high end.
Thanks -

I am a big Rio Grande fan. There ASAT pickups are Tion Grande tallboys or Muy Grandes in the big ASAT format.

Yep, I read that on their website. Have you tried them in an ASAT? I'm real curious how they compare to the stock ASAT MFD's. I'd appreciate any opinions!

They are completely different than the MFD pickup.

There website says it best.

I have a set of Rio Grandes.

The Muy Grande is best for Rock, they are a thicker sounding pickup.

The Vintage Tall Boys are more of a classic tele sound.

I've been curious about this myself. I had a set of the Muy Grandes in a Nashville style ash tele and they sounded HUGE...too big for me at the time. *If* the ASAT versions are the same except for the casing, I'd expect them to be fatter but less sparkly than the stock pickups. But I truly don't know!

They are the same exact, in a different casing.

Thanks for the comparison! I was hoping someone had A/B'd them with MFD's. Sounds like the Muy Grande might be a good fit for the bridge. I might give the Big Bottom set a try as long as the Tallboy isn't too bright/jangly in the neck position. Have you had any experience with the Vintage Tallboy?
