Post by timewave »

Having owned an american tele and changing pups like crazy{now it sounds like an old broadcaster}still not thrilled.I am wondering if the asat has a tele sound or is it just the shape?Having never played one I would like to know how they compare. Cant find one in a local music store and would have to drive 1hr away if they even have one.{gtr center}Thanks for your help. Will wait for replys before the drive,Tele I already have, kindda lacks a little soul to me.

The ASAT Classic can get close to classic tele tones, especially if you back the volume off a bit. The MFD pickups in general will have a bit more output than most tele pickups and have a bit more midrange mellowness. The full size MFDs on the ASAT Specials are even different. Look up some old videos of the Hellecasters on Youtube to get an idea of the ASAT large MFD sound.

Check out the audio clips on the G&L website: http://www.glguitars.com/audioclips/AudioClipindex.asp

There is a plethora of videos on youtube demonstrating ASAT Classics, and ASAT Specials.

I went from a Fender CS Nocaster to my ASAT Classic.

Have you checked for a local dealer?

I don't know how lucky you'll be to find one in Guitar Center.

The Indonesian Tributes have the identical pickups as the American models. You can pick up a used Tribute probably for what you have spent (or less) on modding your Tele.

Both the small ASAT Classic MFDs as well as the larger ones are extremely versatile. They both can provide classic country twang to jazz, blues and hard rock tones. In addition to the excellent tones, you will be blown away by the build quality of any of the G&L models.

My $.02 worth.

The MFD pickups in an ASAT sound different than what Fender puts in their American teles..A bit Louder punchier, clearer, and better..I used to be a Telecaster freak, but once I got used to my ASAT, it was TELE-WHAT?

I have a Tele, and ordered a ASAT instead of buying another Tele.

G&L has me sold over FMIC.

OK, Lets throw another one in the mix....If you want to have some REAL tonal fun.....check out a ASAT Classic S! It has the classic pickup's with an S-500 in the middle along with a five way switch and push/pull on the volume for a total of seven combos. I've had one of these and wish I'd never let it go. Check them out, they are TONE MONSTERS!!!
2015 Himalayan blue ASAT Classic blues boy, 2000 Tobacco burst ASAT DELUXE Semi Hollow, 1998 Hunny Burst S-500 with deep V neck, 2005 PRS Soap bar II SE. 2008 Tanglewood TWDLX15 . A CRAP LOAD of pedals and last but not least a SAMAMP VAC 23 v3.

if you can get to try one... all the better but FWIW I had a traditional tele sound in my head that I was after..... I really couldnt get it from any Fender that I could afford!.... maybe a Custom Shop would have got me there... but the ASAT Classic got it. bridge pup, volume rolled back amp cranked up and I'm there and this from a Tribute..... it was suggested that I shouldn't try the US model or I'll definately want one ;) Probably little chance of me finding one ina shop over here :(
I'd say if you go for G&L you certainly wont regret it
