Solid vs hollowbody

Post by newbuyer »

Looking at ordering a Bluesboy but have only tried the solid body. Not much inventory to try where I am at so haven't been able to try the hollowbody with/without f hole. Any comments on differences other than weight? Also never have ordered a guitar before (always need to feel it in my hands) so would welcome comments about consistency of ordered guitars. Thanks!

i had my bluesboy no f-hole, it blew up. literally. they made me a new body (not for free, the body blowing up is not covered under warranty apparently) and the new one is with an f-hole. works great.

If you had bought it new, it would have been covered under warranty. Warranty coverage is for the original owner only.

Here is a recent thread which might help: G&L Bluesboy Semi-Hollow, balanced or neck heavy?

Hey Newbuyer,

There is a subtle difference in tone between the Semi-Hollow and Solid bodied guitars. I have a solid ASAT special and the exact same guitar in Semi-Hollow. The semi version has a little more "rounded out" sound to it - That is the best way i can think of to describe it. The semi has a little more low mid thickness to the sound and i would say is a little more mellow than the solid version. The solid ASAT is very clear and articulate - so is the semi-hollow, it just has a LITTLE bit softer darker sound. I do have a semi hollow blues boy as well, i just don't have a solid bodied version to compare it to.

As far as consistency goes, i have bought 4 G&L's without playing them and i have yet to be disappointed. What ever you get may need a very small tweak, when you get it, to make it just right for you but i would not have any hesitation in ordering one from the factory with all of the options that you want.

Hope that can help you out.

i'd agree with that statement, maybe that's why i felt the need to swap out the seth lover in my blues boy sh to a p90. it was a little too round for me with the humbucker. i have found the seth lover sound fine in solid bluesboys. g&l is one of very few companies i would not hesitate to order without having to play it. ron kirn, tom anderson would round out that short list. suhr certainly would not be on there, have played quite a few subpar ones. i have never played a g&l that was less than great.

Thanks everybody - I feel more confident in ordering the guitar and appreciate your comments. Looking forward to joining the ranks of G&L owners.
