DF bridge bending range

Post by panchito »

Hi,
I'd like to know how many semitones can be bent up and down with the tremolo arm, provided that the DF bridge has a proper setup. Should it be the same for all the strings ? :confused0007: (The guitar is a S-500 Tribute)
Thanks !

I contacted Steve Grom at G&L with your question.
Here is his reply:
When a guitar leaves the G&L Factory in Fullerton, CA the Dual Fulcrum Vibrato is setup to be “floating” (meaning you can raise and lower the pitch of the strings). You will find with the average setup, using .010 to .046 gauge strings, the range of pitch bend upwards is a ½ step (C to C#) and the downwards range to be about a full step (G to F).

The upward range is going to stay about the same from string to string, but the downward range increase as the strings get larger due to the reduced tension on the larger diameter strings.

I hope this information is helpful

"The upward range is going to stay about the same from string to string, but the downward range increase as the strings get larger due to the reduced tension on the larger diameter strings."

this is wrong. a half step up on the high e will yield a whole step on the b and a minor third and the g string. that is just the nature of the different string gauges, just like on the bend down.
