Welcome to our website!

Boy, that is really a loaded question: Some will say Black because "we all know that black G&L guitars sound the best" ... ;)

Some of my favorites are Clear Orange, Blueburst, Butterscotch Blonde ... way too many to list. There are not too many G&L finish colors I don't like.

You should check out the G&L Porn!!! sub-forum and see some of what's been built in the past.
Also, check the websites of many of the G&L dealers. For example, Guitar Adoptions has some execellent photos and a variety of finish colors.

Hope this helps.

It's hard to keep an eye at the finish, I'm getting stuck with the vibrato, which is yelling for a proper setup.

BTW: Even an ordinary Fender knob on a G&L switch looks better than none: ;)

You may not realize that a flamed cap will make a finish look different than over a regular grain pattern. The Tobacco Burst shown below has a tiger-like quality to it because of the flamed cap. If you do not plan on ordering your guitar with a cap look for examples that are over regular grain like in these thumbnails:

These guitars have flamed caps. The flamed cap gives it more of a tiger coat look.

One remark though

The flamed tops getting old,get uneven. The dark and the light parts have not the same hardness and seem to shrink differently. So you get a kind of ondulated top. This does nothing to the tone and sound is just optical. If you look close you can see that on my above tobaccoburst.

I'd go with the Old School Tobacco Sunburst over Swamp Ash with a Rosewood neck. :eh:

that is a good choice except for the pickguard and the pups. i was not aware that double buckers were available on the asat classic. i don't like those seymours, the g&l mfd's, both single coil and humbucker are much better pups.

You can't go wrong with any of the G&L finishes that show the natural grain of the wood--clear natural, or bursts.

With a nice grain top it's almost a shame to cover it with a pickguard--I think Lucifer would agree. If you do go with a PG, classic black goes with any color.

i went to my local g&l dealer today and he said that the only way i could get humbuckers and a coil split is if i got the deluxe asat. i want opinions if i should get the asat classic with stock mfd pickups or the deluxe with duncan jb and 59.

You probably mean: which one first?

The DeLuxe is more an universal guitar, there's nothing you can't do with it.
I normally gig with at least a Strat, a Tele and an LP type guitar. At one of the recent gigs, there was a really tiny stage, so I had the ASAT DeLuxe and the Legacy with me, for all that stuff and my DeLuxe doesn't even have coil splitting yet but I used it for all the Tele-Sounds and for hi-gain too.

My DeLuxe is the finest guitar I've got, it just hasn't a vibrato, so I have to deal with others too. ;)

Each of those models have different types of bridges and obviously different pickups, so I recommend you check out G&L's main website
and look at the variety of models (USA and Tribute series) that are currently available.

Hope this helps.

i would recommend the asat special deluxe. 2 large mfd single coils, plus no pickguard. the best of both worlds.

yup, asat special deluxe. amazing

I have the natural gloss finish on mine, its beautiful with the mahogany body and the maple cap.

If I were to do it again, I might do Lemondrop or Honey as the colours just to give it a little something!

See this for descriptions of the various pickups here: List of pickups used in G&L guitars.

I'm sure there's a post or two of them being played in here: G&L Audio and Video Clips!!!.

Hope this helps.

well, I am no expert in the sound of pickups, but my asat special deluxe sounds warm and bright and can be punched. The bridge is slightly twangy but not like a tele. Mine is especially bright with the maple cap and the ebony board. Combined the two sound amazing to me.

I have the 59s in my heritage and they are nice, but very much more dull and muddy. That guitar also has a mahogany body and maple cap. They are good, but I'm contemplating changing the pups. If I could afford Tom Holmes pups, hmmmmmm.

So, right now if I had to choose between the two, I would go for the asat special deluxe, its bright, warm, versatile and different. You can get 59s in any guitar, you can't get MFDs.

Just my $.02 worth

try the d allen alleycats. phenomenal pups. and they are very reasonably priced. low output, much brighter and clearer than other humbuckers i have had, i actually tested it against a tom holmes set, and they held their own.

Step 1 - get a swamp ash body.
Step 2 - get a 'burst' finish - that tobacco burst in the above posts is to die for...

Step 3 - you cannot go wrong with MFDs in an Asat classic. Serious tone there.

Step 4 - I prefer maple necks....purely personal of course.....

Yes that is an ebony board. I thought the black pickguard and the black edges of the burst finish needed an ebony board to complete the package.

Nice! Blueburst and rosewood look good together but ebony ties it in even better... Especially with the black guard.
