Friday Drive-by Lunch Report

Post by GGJaguar »

I'm the guy behind GGJaguar's Guitarium and Ampeteria that many folks find helpful for G&L info.

Lunch: Since it's Lent and Friday, today's lunch will be a simple tuna sandwich, some baby carrots and a couple of oatmeal cookies. Beverage of choice - mandarin orange selzter.

G&L: Do you like bling on your G&Ls? Do like gold hardware, figured maple tops, body binding, and birdseye necks? For the most part, I'm happy to have plain Jane G&Ls, but having a few blinged out examples is fun... especially if they are ASATs.

Hey Greg, good to hear from you. Your website is always helpful when I'm looking for any guitar or amp info not just G&L's, Thanks for maintaining such a great resource

Not sure what is for lunch today yet, but yesterday I had bulgogi beef, rice, kimchi and a cup of Miso soup from a Korean BBQ place I had been meaning to try for a while, it was excellent.

I haven't been able to chime in much lately, had a crazy week. It was my 8th wedding anniversary, the Vice President was in town, and the weather has been crazy (literally 60 yesterday and snow this morning :shocked028: )

G&L's with bling: I like birdseye necks and body bindings but not a big fan of gold hardware, figured tops or neck bindings. Although I'm positive I would make exceptions for any one of those guitars.

Hello Greg!

Thank you for talking up the reins today. Your website has been an inspiration to begin collecting G&L's in addition to playing. Just picked up an '87 Skyhawk, tri-burst with Fine tuners from Josey Wales. (I wouldn't mind taking that Trinity off your hands. )

As for bling, I would like to own a Comanche with a Birdseye neck, natural binding, and perhaps a pillowed maple top in some burst. Not a fan of gold hardware, but I guess it would depend on the model. They are works of art, both visual and sonic.

Lunch for me as a coffee and bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich from Panera.

I don't mind playing second Bastid to this guy.

Those are beautiful guitars you have there. Makes me wonder what's behind the curtain.....

I'm mostly plain-Jane too. But I love the double binding on my Bluesboy. A lot. - ed

Hey Greg, its been a while buddy.

I am afraid that giving a guitar dripping with bling to me would be like putting silk undies on a goat.

Hey Greg

Beans for lunch. Doctor told me to get plenty of Vit-C and quality protein. Looks like red meat will be back on the menu soon.

As for Bling. I like nice things on my guitar. Just purchased the Titanium block and saddles. Heck, I have the chrome plated and steel ones, why not a third. As for flame or quilted top, I can do without. Some are great looking, and others look awful. The only G&Ls I buy are custom made and are shipped to me. Too much of a gamble to order those special tops.
Other types of bling I can go for are the metal flake and aluminum pickguards. I'm not into binding, that is usually reserved for people who are +50. Birds eye maple, not really. Up close you can see the bling, but not from a distance. The GOT will do a better job of blinging up the neck. Gold will look nice, but right now, too expensive.

Nothing wrong with plain jane.

Lunch - Burgher Sling - I went to my favorite little local saloon, but their kitchen is closed because of a 'license problem'. Darn.

I love the wide variety of guitar looks. For example, I love Ed's bluesboy. It's just perfect. But I would never go to a guitar builder or customer order gizmo and make that happen, I just couldn't do it. It has lot's of things I am not wild about, individually. Burst finish, double binding. But together, wow.

Figured tops, I am not a big fan on my guitars. But I love to see other's beautiful guitars.

I think gold hardware is almost always corny. Especially on fender style guitars.

So no bling for me...until i see something that I HAVE to have.

Greg, like others I use your site extensively as a first stop for a quick blast of info..so thanks!

Greg, I also have viewed your website several times. Great stuff and beautiful guitars that you have posted today. Lunch was a leftover hamburger patty.it did the job

There have been some beautiful guitars posted today. Bling? A little Bling never hurt anyone. I have a couple of guitars with gold plated hardware and then there is the Gold Sparkle Asat. I have some with highly figured tops. I like 'em all.

Here are some of mine

And this Legacy has some Bling in its own way

Hi Greg,

Thanks for taking up LR duties today. As many posters above, also for me your website has been a trove of information. What is the the status of the book if I may ask?

Just came back from our customary Friday lunch at Buckley's here in Belltown. Fish and chips (tater tots) today. Pretty good and definitely nourishing.

That is some spectacular Trinity you have! And then to realize that is the 'rebuilt' Trinity after the first got lost, you wonder what the first looked like. It was funny to go over my collection and realize there aren't that many decked out specimen amongst them:

First off, hows the book comming along?

I'm not into the gold hardware or fancy maple tops, what I do like are custom paint jobs, It would be nice to see G&L bring back the candies and flip flops.

Jos, I dig the gold on the L-2000.

Darwin, the legacy is amazing.

Duck, I thought we agreed we wouldn't have to look at that unbelievably cool f-100 anymore? It's my favorite looking one ever!

Hey Greg thanks for chiming in today, good to see ya' round here

I do love the bling, bindings, sparkles, quilted tops, matching headstocks etc. unable to post my only one with any bling the CAR Z3.

But that's well enough cuz I will just keep looking at the postings above. :happy0065: Too much good stuff, and I agree with Duck on the flip flops.

Wow . . . I swing by and here you are doing a LR! I was thinking about you and wondering what ever happened with the book you were working on with Gabe. Any progress?

Bling is what brought me to G&L initially. I saw a Legacy that blew me away. I went through some plain Jane's and some blinged out pieces, and while I like them all for the most part, this ASAT is about the best of the bunch when it came to playability. Easy on the eyes, too!

Image

I had a shot at Michael Conover's ASAT Special, but the seller played it one last time because I asked a question about it and he decided to keep it! He probably did us both a favor. This one is a killer!

Hope you're doing well, Greg!

Great to see you post, Bri.

Just as well on the ASAT deal. Yours is just as nice, and would cover the very same territory (just about anything).

What's our buddy Emmitt up to? Any chance on getting him to do a drive-by post. This is a special day indeed! - ed

Hey Ed! It's good to be seen.

Conover's ASAT was a special build, but I can't remember all the circumstances. It was before my time on the GbL, but I read the story somewhere on the old website. I always thought it was a real eye catcher.

Emmitt's doing well, but his back is still giving him fits. He really needs to get it fixed once and for all, but that's easier said than done. We still do the Michigan Jam every year. Had about 18 people last fall, including a few guys from the old GbL. Lots of fun and two days of good music. Here's a shot from Michigan Jam #2. That's your lunch reporter 4th from the right!

Great photo! I recognize some of those geezers! ;+)

Actually, it's the guy fifth from the right that frightens me

Please give Mr. Omar my regards. Hope he's feeling better. I have an LP DC Studio that is weight-relieved that may be right up his alley. Not for sale, mind you, but I would mail it to him in hopes of relieving his suffering (just as I'd mail the Bluesboy to Will just to make him smile big). Seriously. - ed

He just picked up an ES-339. Nice, light weight guitar . . . till he threw a Bigsby on it!

I'm going to see him on Sunday. If he hasn't posted by then, I'll badger the crap out of him!

BTW, the fifth guy from the right is about 4 months away from being a grandpa, so I don't have much time to turn myself into a mature adult!!

I heard from Emmitt. He appreciates the thought! He's really in a bad way right now. So much pain that he can't even manage a trip to the guitar store with me today. That tells me it's serious!

He sends his best.

You guys and your Bigsby's!

Emmitt might be regretting that extra hardware at the moment, but once his back is fixed he'll be leaning on that talent lever!
