Clear Red finish - website pic not good!

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Clear Red finish - website pic not good!

Post by NickHorne »

Are there any more helpful references for G&L's "Clear Red" than their website pic?
That one looks all matte and foggy, like they buffed it with valve paste; doesn't help with the decision.
I was hoping to find a lovely clear ruby glow, like an SG except lighter (on ash instead of mahog).......

If you go to Google images and search for G&L clear red, you will find many excellent examples such as this one:

I think the translucent cherry finish on the ASAT Juniors is closer to the SG color than the current clear red.

I came very close to ordering the clear red before finally going with the blueburst on my ASAT. I like it a lot especially with a nice grain showing through.

Here's another couple of my ASAT Classic Custom, bear in mind that it has an alder body with an ash top as opposed to an all ash body.

For some reason the top is difficult to photograph, it always looks to be out of focus in pictures, that may be what the op is seeing on the G&L site.

That looks really neat and classy, and warm too like a guitar that's a good friend, not just flash.
I've never been much of a pearl man before, but I'm really liking the aged pearl on red in your pics, it's a good contrast with the body but in a nice mature kind of way.
Surprised by it, and definitely like it!
Many thanks for putting these pics up, much clearer idea of what to expect now. :D
