Ebay or Wait?

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Ebay or Wait?

Post by rjcamm »

I need some help here, folks. I saw a 2011 G&L ASAT Classic on Ebay from a G&L dealer in Maine. Good price. Butterscotch blonde. This is the guitar I want.

Now, here's the deal: currently in S. Korea until June, then back to SoCal. A G&L dealer is around the corner from where we will live.

1. If I go through the local dealer, and he does not have the same guitar, will I have to order the same guitar and wait? If so, how long?
2. Are there advantages to buying it through the local dealer? (Besides feeling good about keeping money local.)
3. What should I be worried about if I do order the one through ebay?

Thanks.

You could order with more options:

and your preferred color:

Both links above, are found at this page:

A hint for option prices, you may find here: http://www.buffalobrosguitars.com/gAndL ... ption.html

As the guitar is than built especially for you, you'll have to be patient. ;-)

Order it from your local guitar shop and pick it up when you return from S. Korea. Buy what you want AND keep the money local. Any warranty issues gives you a face to face customer service point from the shop you ordered from.
Enjoy!

In the event of warranty/repair issues, buying from your local dealer is an advantage.
I would definitely recommend buying local, especially if you are out of the country until the summer.
The usual quote for special orders is 18-24 weeks. My order arrived within 6 weeks, but many here have waited longer.
All dealers have different policies regarding orders--One dealer quoted me a 10% down payment, one quoted 50%. I was lucky as my dealer required no down payment whatsoever and even stated that if for any reason I was not satisfied with the guitar upon arrival I was under no obligation.
There are so many options to choose from, and it seems that you have plenty of time, it makes sense for you to custom order your guitar.

1. An order can take two months - but you can order what YOU want.
2. Buying local makes everything easier if you ever need service.
3. You won't be able to see it & use it before June - Risky!

I'd buy it from the local dealer - Easier since he's so close!

Good luck!

I got quotes from 3 different dealers before placing my order. We are not allowed to discuss specific pricing of new instruments here, but I can say that I did not find any significant difference in pricing among the dealers I talked to or the eBay online stores. When buying from eBay stores, regardless of how trustworthy the seller is, things can go wrong......guitar damaged or lost in shipment.....Paypal issues, etc. Unless you find the exact guitar you are looking for on eBay and the seller is offering a significant discount (including shipping charges) from your local dealer, it seems to me that the positives outweigh the negatives for going local.

For all the reasons given above, wait until you're back.
