Jan 18 Lunch Report
Howdy!
Lunch: Today we're having chicken strips and few FF. Good thing my gym is 2 mins away. I usually go for about 45 mins and do a quick workout.
G&L Question: One day (hopefully sooner than later) I will upgrade to a US built G&L. Besides the black satin finish F100 Baco showed us a while back, this is one that I've had dreams of. I've read so many forums talking about how great ASATs are.
I've grow out of my wanna be shredder stage (I think), so I want my next G&L to be versatile. The ASAT looks to be that guitar.
If a student or new guitarist mentioned to you that they were looking to upgrade to a US G&L, what G&L feature comes to mind that less seasoned players wouldn't think of which is most important to you?
Non G&L Question: On the subject of exercise, anyone else on a exercise regimen or want to be on one? Before I had my family, I would spend a lot of time in the gym. Now I appreciate the whole concept of being efficient. My problem is I enjoy eating so I've been doing this balancing act of working out just about every day but staying the same weight. Just a matter of time before my metabolism goes in super slow mode.
Have a great day!!!

Re: Jan 18 Lunch Report
Just had leftover pizza for lunch. It was just as good as I had remembered it!
Now were talkin' about dream guitars and the one you have pictured is top shelf. It should be illegal to make something that beautiful and that one would keep any "has been" shredder happy. Now, the color ain't bad either!!!
I walk on a regular basis and haven't been as good recently due to weather but I bundle up more and that's my story. Late evening when perusing the forum, a little elbow exercise doesn't hurt either. The grain and hops are healthy. My exercise regiment has taken me this far, why change it now!-- Darwin

Re: Jan 18 Lunch Report
After Sam mentioned John 5 in yesterday's LR I see no reason why an ASAT could not be perfect for a transition from shredder to any other style.........most importantly because you would be in a better position when completed, being an all around upgrade.
My lunch was steamed white rice and butter sprinkled generously with cinnamon and topped with natural maple syrup and half&half......sort of a rice pudding.....my first meal since Monday night after fasting & clearing out my system for some medical tests earlier this morning.
G&L: A feature I think about that someone else might not is the interesting wood. Take my Legacy, for instance. The neck and headstock wood was so interesting I wondered whether it was special. I was told it is normal. It is still special in my eyes. I think the wood visible in Fender headstocks is consistently dull and lifeless by comparison.
Non-G&L: Exercise, I get plenty of exercise and I don't eat that bad for not having a "healthy plan" to follow. I do eat a lot of meat because it gives me strength and stamina and it also grounds me. Rather than exercise I need the counter-balance, proper rest. For instance, the last three nights I have awoken 5-10+ times throughout the night and risen in the morning not feeling refreshed. Yet you cannot really set up a program to get more rest on queue. That is the circumstance that is the most difficult to respond appropriately to. Time to rest becomes to for anything but rest. In this regard I may have a body that needs to follow it own heart and sleep when it has to. I have not been able to train myself to sleep when required.

Howdy John!
The sheer build quality and attention to details. Not that the Tribbies are bad, but nowadays you pick up a new US G&L out of the case and the thing plays like butter straight out of the box. Not something you would necessarily see from either the F or G companies. The esthetics are a plus, as is the versatility, but quality tops the list. Whoever starts off with a US G&L in all likelihood got him/herself an instrument for to which everything in the future will be compared.

I have never used a gym while living in the US. I walk a lot and pedal around on my bicycle but foremost want to enjoy life: good company, good food, good wine. That once in a while I add on some pounds, I don't worry too much about it.Elemeno P wrote:Non G&L Question: On the subject of exercise, anyone else on a exercise regimen or want to be on one?

Maybe I'd tell someone looking to upgrade to consider the hardware of the bridges. I don't know if it matters that much between Tributes and US models, but the bridge hardware on G&L's compared to a lot of lesser quality builds is a bit factor in in tuning stability and playability.
I've been pretty active for years. I used to be a regular at the gym. Up until a few years ago I would go 4-5 times per week. These days much less so, maybe once a week. But I try to eat right and keep active with biking and jogging. Then when I do indulge, and I can assure you that I do indulge, it's not such a big problem.

i would want to be on am exercise regimen. that would be nice. i always look at people in the gym or on tv when they ask, "wouldn't you want to look like this?", and think to myself maybe one day if i stop for a really long time, i could look like that.

ASAT Deluxe is definately a versatile guitar, split 'em for single and especially since you still have some shredder hidden in there, rip it with the hummers.
Like Jos and repoman I would tell the student that build quality, options and the tone of MFD's and Z coils can only be found with G&L. Oh yeah, best necks in the biz.
Excercise and athletic activity have been part of my regimine since losing much weight in college. This last year has been a bit heavier, but have lost 5 lbs in the last 3 weeks through running, cycling and exercise!

i think asats are all versatile, as well as the s style g&l's. the one pictured with the 2 hums would be less versatile imnsho. but it is really the player that makes a guitar. you can really play anything on any guitar. my dream guitar for versatility would be an asat special with 3 big mfd's and a dfs trem. you get the power of a humbucker, the bite of a p90 and the spank of a tele, plus the quack of a strat. can't ask for more.

Pretty standard....I wish I would have focused more back then. It still felt great to be in shape. It wasn't till after high school that I really started to work on strength. Baseball was my specialty and our coach didn't want us bulking up. Now after a couple of "hmm...you blood pressure is a little high" appointments, I do a lot of cardio and high rep/low weight lifting.louis cyfer wrote:L, M, N O, P. when you spent a lot of time in the gym, how good were your results?

So, you'd want an ASAT trinity?louis cyfer wrote:i think asats are all versatile, as well as the s style g&l's. the one pictured with the 2 hums would be less versatile imnsho. but it is really the player that makes a guitar. you can really play anything on any guitar. my dream guitar for versatility would be an asat special with 3 big mfd's and a dfs trem. you get the power of a humbucker, the bite of a p90 and the spank of a tele, plus the quack of a strat. can't ask for more.

Sounds like a guitar I'd buy. i guess so, it is the signature guitar from hell. i would like it to have a chambered body like the asat super. korina or mahogany would be fine as far as wood choice, but i am still partial to swamp ash and spalted maple. i wonder how a smalted maple top on a korina chambered body would work. only available with natural gloss, honey, lemon drop, butterscotch blonde, and the clear color finishes. but the signature finish would be a tinted tru-oil.JagInTheBag wrote:Sounds like a guitar I'd buy. This is what I had in mind when building the chambered Korina body with birdseye maple top, finished in Vintage tint...great minds!louis cyfer wrote:i guess so, it is the signature guitar from hell. i would like it to have a chambered body like the asat super. korina or mahogany would be fine as far as wood choice, but i am still partial to swamp ash and spalted maple. i wonder how a smalted maple top on a korina chambered body would work. only available with natural gloss, honey, lemon drop, butterscotch blonde, and the clear color finishes. but the signature finish would be a tinted tru-oil.JagInTheBag wrote:Sounds like a guitar I'd buy.
