Hi all,
I am quite new to G&L and just came across an opportunity to buy a Phyllis Blondie. Played it and was impressed with the overall feel. It is a limited edition, only 100 made they say, with a signature by Phyllis herself. I don't really need or want to pay for that feature, but if it is a good enough price with it, I would be ok. So, what are your alls thoughts on this Blondie? And what would be a good price? I play in the styles of David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler; would you think Blondie would be a good fit for that style?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Richard,
My personal opinion is that The Blondie is a beautifully designed guitar. That blonde finish with the pearl white pickguard and pearl tuners is art. As far as the tone goes, I believe it is standard Legacy otherwise. I have a Legacy and aside from the single coil buzz which I am in the process of shielding to help reduce it sounds wonderful.......you should be able to do Gilmour and Knopfler with one.
I looked for months for a Blondie after seeing them. I would have bought a plain Legacy that had the same color scheme or even something that I could tweak (replace pickguard or whatever) but I could not find anything I was in a position to afford. I ended up satisfying that attraction with a blonde ASAT Classic.
Good luck with your decision and with the entire process. Please post an update regardless. Also pictures if you buy it. Although they are identical I cannot see too many pictures of them.

Re: Phyllis Blondie
As Michael indicates the Phyllis Blondie is a meticulously built guitar. But it is slightly more than an 'ordinary' Legacy, but just slightly. The treble tone pot is push-pull to allow you to combine neck+bridge (positions 1 and 5) or neck+middle+bridge (positions 2 and 4) in addition to the more common combinations allowed by a 5-way switch.
To help you with pricing, the latest edition of the Blue Book lists the Blondie between $1,200 (Good condition) to $1,850 (Mint condition).
Hope this helps,

Thanks Michael. But I was thinking the MFD pickups would be quieter than the normal single coil pickups. Am I wrong in this? When I played it, i played it very clean on a small amp and heard zero single coil buzz that I thought I might hear.
And what do you think a good price would be?
Thanks again

Perhaps true of MFD's but the Blondie has Alnico V vintage wound single coil pups.jiagap wrote:Thanks Michael. But I was thinking the MFD pickups would be quieter than the normal single coil pickups. My ideas on pricing are too subjective to be useful to anyone.
