ASAT tone control has almost no effect

Post by johnnyqb »

I bought a 2003 ASAT Classic that is basically in mint condition. It has one oddity, in that the tone control does not have much effect. On a Fender Tele, if you turn the tone all the way down, you have mud. On this ASAT, you turn the tone control down and you do hear a slight change, but not nearly as much as there should be. Any thoughts as to why this would be? I looked at the wiring and everything looks fine (no loose wires, etc.)

Good point!

The last time I thought, the tone control has almost no effect, I finally found out, the knob was loose. I just had to strengthen the screw on the side. :D

that could be too, although i would think people would try it without the knob on to make sure.

Thanks for the replies. The knob is not loose. I can hear a slight change as I rotate the tone control knob, but nowhere near what I would expect. Does "cap value" mean someone must have modded the capacitor?

it could, or also it could be the cap is bad, so the measured value is not it's rated value.
