SC-2 Now with pickguard
Hello again all, thought I would take a moment to share the latest addition to my SC-2. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, but I had a steel colored carbon fiber pickguard added to the guitar. I am quite pleased with the results, and think it gives my guitar a rather unique and distinctive look. I was fortunate to come across a local tech who is trying to get a custom parts business off the ground, I think he did great work, and even had my guitar back to me by noon the day after i dropped it off.

Unique and kinda works with the vibe of the guitar.
I wonder what it would look like under stage lights?

That's cool! Is the pickguard glued on? I'm jonesing for an SC-2 reissue and when I do pick one up I'm planning on adding a pickguard as well. I really like the mods done by Robert Poss (Band of Susans) to his collection of SC-1s: http://www.guitarnerd.com.au/?p=947

Ahryn, I too am curious about the way stage lighting may reflect off the carbon fiber weave.
Deseretrat, The pickguard was made from a self adhesive carbon fiber sheet. It was cut to the shape I was after, backing peeled off and stuck into place. Basically a very similar application to the pickguards on acoustic guitars. It is nice too, in that it doesn't leave any holes in the guitar.

For me it looks better without any kind of pickguard, but that's a matter of taste.
Thanks for the link to that Robert Poss guitarnerd page, there some impressive pictures there, particularly this one:

i have to agree. the pg in this case takes away from the form. as the op stated, it's not everyone's cup of tea.Miles Smiles wrote:For me it looks better without any kind of pickguard, but that's a matter of taste.

Wow. It has that 3-D type image to it. I can't tell if is in front or back of the guitar. Far-out man!

I just ordered an SC-2 in Graphite Gray..Do you think you could ask the guy who made your pickguard to make me one just like yours in black..?? Black carbon..or would you be willing to send me his name and number..I think the pickguard on your guitar looks awesome..I have been looking for a design for the pickguard and your is perfect.. How is it attached???
Thank you,

Re: SC-2 Now with pickguard
Pat, I am glad to hear that you dig my pickguard design. And nice choice in guitar, I seriously considered the graphite color as well. My pickguard was made from a sheet of adhesive backed carbon fiber material, so much like the pickguard on an acoustic guitar it is just stuck on, No ugly holes drilled in my guitar should i ever wish to return it to it's original appearance. Justin Gibby is the guy that did mine, but unfortunately he has since closed up shop and has decided to go in a different direction. Which is very unfortunate, since He had some very cool ideas for acoustic pickup designs. He does still have his website up, and contact info on it even though he no longer has a shop space, Perhaps he would still be willing to take the project on.

Thank you for the reply...After doing s few searches I found a supplier for the carbon fiber film that looks like yours only in black..They say it can be attached, it will stay in place and it can be removed without any harm to the guitar..I am going to try to cut out a design and attach it to my SC-2..Hopefully it will turn out as good as yours..When complete I will post a few photos..

Interesting you should mention the film, When i had my pickguard done, Justin and I discussed using a 3m film to make the pickup covers match the pickguard. But again this was before he shut down his luthier operations. Good luck with adding character to your SC-2 and i look forward to seeing photos when it is done.

Re: SC-2 Now with pickguard
They look better with pickguards in my opinion, so I like that about it. But that shape is simply not flattering. The extension down by the knobs looks pointless and just plain bad. The guard also rides too close to the edges of the body IMO.
