Hi Guys, I am looking for some info on the 1a neck profile. My first ASAT has the Standard 1 neck. I wanted something smaller so I now have 2 ASAT's and a Legacy with the smallest 1b neck profile, which I really like alot.
I also really like the newer Fender American Standard necks which are small like the 1b neck, but the Fender necks stay pretty small even at the 12th fret. I am going to order another Legacy and I want to try a 1a neck profile, hoping it is similar to the Fender neck?
Thank You ..........Any help is appreciated!

Hi LonesomeCraig,
A spec sheet on all the neck configuartion G&L offers can be found on the USA Options page on the G&L website. Sounds like when you talk 'smaller', you actually talk 'thinner' since the nut width is the same for all variations of the #1 neck. I have several guitars with different #1 necks and although you feel a difference when switching guitars with a different profile, that wears off pretty fast (at least for me). But some others are very picky on the neck profile (i.e. thickness). best way remains to go to a shop carrying G&L's and play some guitars with different profiles.
Hope this helps,

Re: Who has a 1a Neck profile?
I had a G&L Comanche with a 1a slim neck. It was slim and felt similar to a Fender American Standard neck but the neck on my Comanche had a 12" radius so it stll felt a tiny bit different(bigger). My older G&L's have the bi-cut necks that are slimer than the 1a neck. My older G&Ls 2001-2005 have the older style slim bi-cut neck. My older G&L's feel like the new American Standard necks but slimer. Also My 2010 Comanche and Aniversary Legacy have the new Standard 1 neck that feels more rounded than a Fender American Standard.

i am not sure if i would classify the 1b as the smallest. (slimmest). the 1a stays slimmer while it does start a little thicker. i really prefer the standard 1 neck over the new am standard necks. the beefier necks somehow seem to have a better tone and sustain.

Re: Who has a 1a Neck profile?
I wish the dealers had a sample of each neck so you could feel the different necks before making a decision. I was thinking that the 1c modern U, or the 1d modern V might have been what I was looking for but I did not know what to compare the necks to. The 1c and 1d look pretty tempting. Also I wish they would put on the tag what neck each guitar has.
