S 500 swamp ash vs alder sound?

Post by Ribsspare »

I have an alder body/rosewood S 500 and of course I love it! I'm thinking in the future getting another S 500 as a back up guitar but perhaps in the likes of swamp ash and maple neck. Is the sound difference just subtle or do you think it's a different guitar?

it will make a difference. but it will still be an s500. the biggest issue for me is going from the rosewood to the maple board. i see better on the maple. i have been practicing everything without looking to make it less of an issue.

This is so true for me as well. I really like how I see my left hand on the maple. It is not like I depend on it as much as I just enjoy the visibility on a lighter wood. The same guitar has a light finished body and though I do not physically interact with the guitar body I enjoy the lighter finish. I guess there must be some actual visual benefit going on with the fretwood. Sometimes I do look at what I am doing there. Playing on light wood is very new to me. My previous experience has been mostly with ebony then rosewood. Of all the guitars I have tried recently the ones that had the most desirable qualities happened to have maple necks and I am inclined to pick maple in a next guitar if I ever acquire another.
