Howdy campers, my original plans for the the day were to be spending a 12 hour round trip u-hauling stuff for a family member but plans changed yesterday, which I don't mind terribly much. But you do for your family when you can.

Lunch today will be tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. Kind of a post rain, chlly damp day here in the South so something to warm the bones. Today's grilled cheese will have a mix of cheddar and pepperjack, yum yum.

G&L topic - According to some financial reports the economy is picking up. With that in mind, when did you last buy a G&L / BBE item, what was it. Along with that what do you see in the crystal ball as your next G&L / BBE cash outlay?
This may be redundant for the lucky folks who got shiny new gitars for the holidays but you can still rave about yer latest. For those of us who didn't let's play. My last was an ASAT Jr about 1 1/2 years ago and she still gets played on a regular basis. No major plans right now but a G&L buckshot or BBE Wah are on the purchase plan within the month of January. Always gassing for a ASAT Super or 25th Anniversary.

Non G&L topic - When you don't have a6 string in your hands where do you go musically?
I love percussion instruments. Can't play drums but bought a kit a few years back and my kids have the percussion talent. I'm still perfecting paradiddles with a crash fill for fun. I have been collecting fun percussion hand instruments over the years, kalimbas, hand drums and other funky noise, uh music makers that are not only fun to play with but can add an unexpected cool sound to a song.

My most recent G&L purchase was November 22. Nothing new since them but I have this feeling that something could happen today.

I have a hard time getting away from 6 strings but the last few days I have rediscovered a couple of acoustics that we have. It is a change. Have you also been a drummer in the past or is another great hobby?-- Darwin

My last G&L purchase was the '90 ASAT (Nov 2010). The crystal ball tells me a Bluesboy is next on the list, although I'm also considering buying a classic and adding the seth lover to the neck since you can usually get them a good deal cheaper.
Just put in my order for a Buckshot from LR duty, can't wait to try it out!

Non-G&L topic: I've been trying to teach myself harmonica for a bit. Definitely improved from when I first started but I have a long way to go. It's perfect for me because I can easily bring it to work and practice in my store room, they're relatively cheap, and it compliments the guitar
Nice drum kit, I tried to get a friend to "store" his kit at my house since he never plays anymore but no luck. I think he's trying to sell it now.

G&L

I mustered up enough energy to snap a photo of my newest (2 days old to me) G&L. She is an early '07 Legacy in Fullerton Red with matching headstock and the new style neck.....



It is setup really well, not much tweaking needed - the only thing she needs is a good workout on the Z!
My Crystal Ball shows me a Special w/ Bigsby in 2012 - maybe Santa will show up with it next year.

As far as having the hands go somewhere else musically, my 2 daughters are in a program called Music For Young Children so i am helping them out with their piano chops ( and learning a few things about fingerings myself!)

Scott, your Legacy is a beauty. I don't generally care for creme trim, but it looks really nice with the red body.

Non-six strings:
My main instrument for playing out is an upright bass. I haven't gigged in over a year, though. My last steady playing situation was a duo with an African percussionist, so I had to pick up some drum chops for some points in our sets. I usually played an Turkish-made aluminum doumbek, but also had a cowbell that I could pull out when it wasn't practical to set the bass down. Just before I moved away, the drummer built me an Ashika (an African drum shaped like an inverted cone). The Ashika is seriously loud - my neighbors stood on the sidewalk and shot dirty looks through the window when I tried it out.

I've always wanted to build an electric kalimba and learn to play it. Discovering Konono #1 was one of those perspective-changing musical experiences:

Next G&L:
I won't rave too much about my shiny new/old Nighthawk. I've done that in other posts. I have no idea what the next G&L will be, but hopefully the stars will line up and the perfect instrument will show up sometime in 3-6 months. I do have my eye on an early ASAT, but the price is egregiously high and will need to come down substantially. If it's still there in March or April I will probably make a low-ball offer. All the recent talk about the ASAT JR II has me starting to salivate, so I might think about getting my first 21st Century G&L. In the meantime, I'm waiting for a back ordered Moogerfooger Cluster Flux to arrive at my local guitar shop.

Me, I play a little piano. I used to actually be good at it when I was young (took lessons from age 4 to age 12), but I've forgotten most of what I knew. I still find the piano useful for figuring out chords and progressions and such, however.

Oh, and I love the mat under your drum kit. Looks like my bedroom walls in High School. Your drums look solid good as well. I have never really tried to play drums, and I sometimes get the urge to give them an honest go.

My lunch today was left-over banana/cinnamon pancakes and sausage (from Xmas breakfast). Tonight will be Chinese food left over from last night's dinner.

Regarding recent BBE purchases, etc., I haven't purchased any gear-related items of late (except for guitar strings). I have more than I need and deserve already, given my basement wanker status and talent level. My resolution for the new year is to try to do my instruments and amps and such more justice than I managed in 2011. Also hoping to publish some original songs after long last.

Well, the last piece of G&L equipment I bought was the Korina Classic, early this month. But I played my Junior II yesterday and dialed in a nice tone on my Express 5;25 and played along Lucinda Williams for a while trying to do my best Doug Pettibone. Boy, that thing has some serious bark and I loved it. Turned out I needed to dial in a tad more treble than I use to playing ASATs with MFD pups. And when thinking about it that is not entirely unexpected since the P-90's have more midrange and less high compared to an MFD. Me like, me like ...

Good evening campers, and hope it was a good day for all.

Darwin - acoustics also help me get to basics and keep fingers working more than the electrics. Drummer who? Never a drummer just hung around a bunch of drummers, best music friend is a semi-pro drummer and my middle child was banging on things at an early age so after the junior kit you see in the background I went for a full kit for all my kids and me to learn. Some time with instructional videos and I am learning, but primarily hobby.

Dave - another fave song, cool. Liek your idea on modding the classic. Harmonicas are great, if I could play one it would make me want to be Bob Dylan. I was lucky enough to store my friends kit for about 5 months so that made the purchase more legit for the wife.

Scott - glad to hear your feeling a bit better, hope continues on the positive notes. Love the Fullerton and the red is sweet, you will see my love of red tomorrow Music for young children sounds like a perfect program. Two of mine also play piano and I want them to teach me.

Ken - you are the man, that is a life changing bit of music, and your collection sounds super cool. You can reave about that Nighthawk all you want, those have so much vibe going on.

Louis - Bluesboys are on lot of folks wish list it seems, glad you snagged yers! Let us know what you think of the Buckshot. I do like the Soul Vibe.

Ed - Thanks as always. BTW that is actually a metal coil not a tube, and I left that "other one" back in college too. Another piano player I can be jealous of. The mat was picked out by my oldest daughter and I love it too.

Jos - years of music making stuff at garage sales, drum shops and travel shops lead to these things, not a hoarder yet. Your collection of ASAT's is one to wonder at. That Junior II only gives me more gas but will have to wait for a while and build up the G&L fund. Keep us updated on both the JR II and the Korina, videos or mp3's are always nice to hear.

Will try to bring a little mo' better noise and excitement tomorrow.

G&L purchase I got a BBE Green Screamer first part of the year.
The Screamer is now in the rotation of other little green stomp boxes I have.
Sonic Stomp when I did the lunch report last summer, I don't think that counts.
I Got a new to me guitar for Christmas from the wife but it was a Gretsch If she hadn't bought me that I had been looking at pawn shops for a bargain drum set.
I played drums a little when in school. I was thinking about being a little more versatile.

Brisket, you lucky dog. Can tell you, I cannot go to an "all you can eat again" after County Line BBQ in Austin, swear I ate an entire brisket, but it was soooo good!

You got some winners with those pedals. i keep both a screamer and a stomp in rotation. Ya got both a great wife and a great guitar. Speaking of Gretsch, the big kit above is a Gretsch Catalina.

Looks like I missed the opportunity to be a part of Sam's late wrap up.

Split my lunch, quickly ate a fresh carrot, an orange and some diced cheddar. I took the rest of my lunch late in the afternoon but actually worked through it except for about 5 minutes.

About 2 months ago I bought an ASAT Classic. I love that guitar. I received a BBE Green Screamer for hosting the LR a while back. Shipping was delayed so I have not had it so long (I have had it for weeks though) but I still have not taken it out of the box and tried it.

I was shopping for a Bluesboy but I bought another ASAT for a backup so I would have a choice if the other was disappointing. Turned out that I liked the #1. The process of acquiring the 2nd ASAT and selling it removed my desire to buy another guitar for the time being. Now that I have vacated the space I am more interested in playing than filling the space with another guitar.

My non-guitar venture is into keyboard/piano. I can't play yet but I am learning.

The Classic is a tele killer for sure. Mine is used more for country and alt country but it is a sig that has all the mojo in the world. We're rowingthe same oat as far as gear goes, I am wondering is this overkill?

sam, i don't have the buckshot. i was considering it, for the LR pedal, but i couldn't find one to try, and most of the reviews said it is similar to the fulldrive 2. i ended up with the soulvibe instead. i would still like to try out the buckshot though.

On Brisket talk - County Line in Austin is real goood. BUT Salt Lick south of Austin is better. BBQ prime rib on Sundays.

The Original Sonny Bryant in Dallas is good too. In a shack built in 1910 school desk for tables only serve until they run out of beef.
The chain Sonny Bryant's aren't near as good.
