LR Friday 16/10
My car has been fixed, total cost of $550 - $AUS are equal to $US. To be completely honest I thought it would be more – an electric window motor set me back $450 a couple of years ago.
Lunch today was at a ‘Pan-Asian’ café near my girlfriends work. We shared a char-grilled quarter chicken on Indonesian style fried rice with an egg on top, Korean Fried Chicken and a pot of very nice green tea.
G&L
I predict they will become fashionable any day now, making Jos incredibly rich.
Bad Gig Posters/Photos
Check this beauty out. I took it from the wall of a place we play at – unfortunately I couldn’t fit the whole thing in the scanner. Typos and all – truly awful! What have you seen?
Perpetual Earworm
Poison. This is the one of the only Alice Cooper songs I like. That intro riff is fantastic.

Hope you enjoy your weekend – if anyone wants to do the Lunch Reports next week please let me know via PM.
Cheers!

It was a fun week Jamie.
Your lunch sounds good. Yesterday (today really) I ended up going for an all MEAT lunch with sweet & sour pork, Sweet & sour chicken and charcoal BBQ'd teriyaki wingettes. What a gratifying meal.
Are you really seeing a trend, a vision, getting a feeling or just throwing the idea out there about G&L becoming fashionable soon?
Hmm.....it said video not available in my country.
Louis and I are in the USA.
Hopefully this plays more than 30 seconds:

That's not bad for a Volkswagen repair. I put an engine in a VW Passat about 12 years ago and the engine itself was $10,000. The labor, miscellaneous parts and fluids were on top of that!blargfromouterspace wrote:My car has been fixed, total cost of $550 - $AUS are equal to $US. I've been a G&L owner for 28 years and I'm still surprised by the number of people that don't know anything about them. I'm not sure if they're ever going to be fashionable.blargfromouterspace wrote: G&L

Great week Jamie, and hooray for the car not costing as much as anticipated!
Yep another long time Alice Fan here, I saw him Tuesday night in Atlanta, great show, 21 songs 1 1/2 hours. Took my son for his 9th birthday and he LOVED it. He knows quite a few Alice tunes, so he was belting out the songs with everyone else. They definately played poison. Guitarists this tour include Steve Hunter (75-79), Tommy Henriksen and Orianthi so a bit of old and new school. Damon Johnson (03-2010) came on stage and played one song as well. Orianthi was fun to watch as well.
Crystal ball says G&L guitars become the #1 Christmas request in years to come.

Great week
I have always loved VWs, in their various forms, VW, AUDI, Porsche. Currently my wife has a 2009 jetta diesel. Great car, but yes expensive. We have already been told that our next maintenance will be $650, at 50,000 km. WOW just routine maintenance.
For lunch, met an old friend and had egg pie and soup. Can't say quiche.
Its sad when a music store in my neighbourhood, got rid of his G&Ls and went all fender because he was tired of explaining why G&L were better but the kids want a fender. Its all about the brand!
Orianthi is interesting, even she admits she can't play chords, she's just a shredder. But a good one, I guess. If Steve Vai and Santana thinks she's great, who am I to argue.
Would have loved to see the Alice Cooper show, sounds amazing!

Jamie, thanks for the fun week and I especially liked the poll today. The Beach Boys may win this one, they are faves of mine!
If G&L is really going to be hot, let me know so I can pick up some more. They are relatively unknown and It amazes me. It would be cool if Fender dealers were required to have a G&L display right next to their Fenders.
I owned several VWs during the 60s. Gas was cheap so owning a VW was a statement rather than a sign of being greener. They were fun cars and the only ones that you could pedal to the metal all the time. I one time won a race on Washington ave against another VW. A MPLS cop was at the end of the block and being the winner, I got the ticket. I probably hit 40 MPH by the time he waved me aside.
I am going to a Christmas luncheon today and they are serving steak so I guess I will go along with that! -- Darwin

Good to hear you get off relatively easy on car repair. About 8 years ago we had an Acura. It was about 6 or 7 years old when all of a sudden 2 power windows quit working. The estimate for repairing was $2000. I traded it away instead.
Many, many songs just grabs you as soon as the opening riff plays. This is one out of my many favorites:

SBNT, that Beach Boys version of Cotten Fields is excellent. This is the first time I've ever heard it by them.

Kit - Franz Ferdinand are one of these new hip bands I can listen to, and I like that tune. Shame they always look so bored when they're playing though...
That was great. I hadn't heard that one before either. They make anything sound fantastic.sickbutnottired wrote:Earworms? Beach Boys?]
Quiche, on analysis of its contents, is an unhealthy, manly dish - cheese, bacon (I hope there was bacon in yours), onions, cream and pastry. Nothing healthy in it. It's just the poncey name that makes it sound all frilly and girly .astutzmann wrote:For lunch, met an old friend and had egg pie and soup. Can't say quiche.

Thanks for a great week again Jamie, glad to hear your car repair wasn't too terrible. You all have me scared with your window motor estimates though, that's one of the problems I need to have fixed, I'm hoping it's just the clip and not the motor.
That is a fantastically bad gig poster, I love how "singer" has an asterisk next to it as if there's a disclaimer at the bottom

VWs (especially Jettas) are known for having short-lived window motors. If they have not resolved this by now it is deliberate and a built-in way to generate aftermarket income from the replacement motors.

Hey Jamie,
Great week of LR's.... Todays (kinda unofficial) poll posses quite the dilemma for me
I recall when CD's hit they were such a big deal (and big $) My Dad brought home a player with our first CD - Beach Boys "Endless Summer" That thing got played for months until we could afford a new one....
Then when i turned 16 i had saved up enough money for this
It has been sitting in its case for 3 years.. i thought today was a good day to dust her off.
So i will remain undecided on the poll!
Have a great weekend
Scott

Pork Fat Rules, bacon on everything.
My friend has a chocolate shop. This summer he started making chocolate covered bacon. He can't make enough of it, always sold out!
If I'm out for breaky, I order a bacon/cheddar omelet with sausage on the side. Is that bad?

Scott, super cool guitar for a 16 year old. At that time in my life I had an old beat up Harmony archtop that I carried in a pillow case when I performed somewhere. Times have changed for me and life is good.-- Darwin

LOL I don't have as much time to read everything on this forum carefully anymore so this little ditty completely escaped me 'til now. Of course in the end, the reason G&L's become fashionable is because some great, universally accepted guitar god will use an G&L; just the one model I don't have in my collection leaving me with the 'lemons'. Oh well, at least I can enjoy and play them ....blargfromouterspace wrote:G&L
