Lunch Report - Friday Dec. 2, 2011
Hi All,
I hope it has been worth the wait for a few pix. So here goes.
Left to right, they are:
Commanche
Z3
Trinity
ASAT S3
Tribute ASAT Special - modded into an S3 (See below for notes on this guitar)
ASAT III

I don't remember why I purchased this guitar, I had no need for it as I already had a MIA ASAT Special. Maybe I was planning on modding it from the beginning. I took a bridge pup I had laying around, and went to town on this puppy. Of course, I had to change the switch too. And for fun, I decided to see if I could fit a Bigsby on it. You can, but it is challenged. The Bigsby touches the bridge, and hang off the end of the guitar. And changing the high E and the B strings are harder than is normal for a Bigsby. There is not enough room, and my fingers are too fat. Bad combination.
ASAT Special - modded into an ASAT III
This poor guitar came to me as a body, with no neck, and the pup routes FUBAR'd by an idiot with a router. I could tell that it had originally been a Special, but the pup mounting area's had been messed with, so I decided to have some fun with it. I got the folks at G&L to put a neck on it, then I got all the pieces, including some S-500 pups, and put it together. I finished the body with nitro, which did not fully dry before being put in a gig bag. So part of the finish has a nylon imprint on it from the gig bag. But it does play quite nicely.
--------------------------------------------
Does anybody have anything musical on their wish list, or are you giving any musical gifts, for this year?
I don't have anything on my list, though I am trying to find a recording of Bob Segers "Sunspot Baby." It's not available on iTunes.
My daughter is getting a guitar, a 3/4 sized Strat knock off from Axl. I know a guy who works there, and he helps with product development. I have been playing it, and it's not bad. A little too small for my hands, but that's no surprise. I have to intonate it and change the strings, but that's no big deal. Then I can teach her how to play. In a number of years, we can build a guitar together. That I am looking forward to.
--------------------------------------------
Lunch. I am not sure what lunch will be today. I have to work the evening shift, so I have decided on my dinner. Rice, chicken, and veggies. For lunch maybe a left over Subway sandwich, if it has not deteriorated too much. Or then again, maybe a pepperoni sandwich.
UPDATE: Lunch is leftover pizza, heated up.
So, do you all have any pix of 3 pup G&Ls? Legacy's are allowed. I just don't have any.
Take care,
edg
PS: Any volunteers for next week?

Hi Ed,
Here is a picture of two of my S-500s:
I have a Legacy but I can't seem to find a good picture of it right now.
I always want musical stuff. My daughter bought me a good bass strap last year. I can always use another strap.
Good week.

Here is a bigger shot of the 2005 Legacy that you see in my profile pic, set before a couple of amps. The Traynor needs a new transformer and a new set of tubes. I'm wondering if I'm going to farm out its repair and get it done right once and for all.

That's really odd, Night Moves doesn't seem to be available as a download at either iTunes or Amazon. I'm sure it's an easy CD to track down secondhand, though.

Edg, It was worth the wait. Nice family of G&Ls. I found the Bigsby mod interesting. If you had used the F Bigsby, it may have fit. It doesn't have the screw tab on the top, right side. How does it work with the saddlelock?
Had a usual sandwich for lunch with chips. I am a creature of habit! Then off to the local GC for a guitar stand. I will be using a triple Hercules (GS432B) stand in future gigs to hold 2 basses and a regular 6 string. I have enjoyed your week Edg, and we'll see you on the next go around. I bet you daughter will love the new git! Hopefully she will join you in some music someday. I am a lucky guy as my daughter is gigging with me for the first time in one week! -- Darwin

Darwin,
You hit me right in the weak spot. I can think of nothing that could make me happier than the 2 of us playing and/or singing together. Unfortunately, she has my sense of tone. Way off. But we have a lot of fun, so I am thrilled.
Post a vid or pic of the 2 of you performing, if you can.
Take care,
edg

I only have 2 G&L guitars and they both are 3-pickup variety. The third instrument is an L-2000.

Ed, that S-500 looks great. That's the same colour scheme I would choose if I bought new. A very nice collection you have. Well done !

Hey Ed,
NIce new pic!
Lunch was chinese business meal. Good but full.
Cant post pics right now but my 3 p-up version is the ASAT Z3 SH with the Will Ray bridge p-up that I LOVE!
Thanks for your pics, they only make me want to snag Tribby's and begin the mods. Tell us, how hard was to to go from ASAT to an ASAT S3?
Always wishing for musical stuff for Christmas. Headphones, new wah and uke on the list. None expected but we can always dream. My kids have a FNDR mini strat that has held on well. Found that petroleum jellly in the tuners has helped keep intonation better. Basic guitar but good fun for all. Would love to see a "MINI ASAT"

Hi Sam,
To make an ASAT S-3, it's not hard. You need to be competent with a router and soldering iron. Those are the 2 main requirements. Instead, you can buy one. I forget who the dealer is, but G&L is making S-3s again.

That is a Melancon Pro Artist with Kinman pickups. Excellent guitar that I bought used a few years ago.Michael-GnL-Michael wrote:
