Hello all!

A little more about me
-------------------
I am a software engineer by trade and guitar player by night. 15 years ago, I took a hiatus from playing guitar.
hrrrmph. :thumbdown: It took the likes of Dr Gary North to bring me back into the light. :thumbup: He showed me the difference between a job (what you do to put food on the table) and a calling (what you do can't be replaced. Or what you do better than anyone else.)

Here is an excellent example between what is a job and what is a calling.

Note: This topic is about garlic only. Not baco bits, Dorito breath, eating a box of Oreos and a bag of onions
before going to the dentist or any of that other stuff. Just garlic.

I put garlic in that stew I made Monday. The smell is still here.
Very tasty. Yummy!

Question: Do you eat garlic then later work with people face to face? A student comes over to learn guitar and
there you are with garlic breath. Do you do that? Be honest.

The thing with garlic, no matter how much you brush your teeth afterwords, or how much mouthwash you rinse with.

It doesn't go away. I have had people come up to me asking if I had recently ate garlic. "Well of course...and it
was also delicious" :)





The G&L Topic of the day:

My second G&L was the Climax Bass. Again another excellent built guitar. Love the sound when I played it through
my Ampeg SVT. Sad to say, I had to sell that Ampeg SVT, not because it was the best sounding Bass amp ever, but
because it was the heaviest piece of equipment. That thing was like a refrigerator. Massive. Eight 10 inch
speakers and the handles on the amp head is something you find in the military carrying heavy artillery.
My bass was bought new back in '96 about. This model is out of production.
The bass is littered with birth marks. Do the new model have that too?

I do. It is peteotto.com. Nothing there at the moment, other than posting pics of my G&L.
Eventually, somehow I will build it up to something that can help my personal business grow.
If you don't have one, imo , you should. Use it, and show the world your are a professional. Don't forget to post
pics of your G&Ls. The internet is the future, use it to your advantage.

Garlic, I eat so much garlic. I don't work much with people face to face. But it's a wonder I have any friends. Also, you don't want to share my mic!

I don't have a domain registered with name, kind of a good idea, though!

Bass, got no bass.

i love garlic. i do see clients after eating garlic. tough.

i do not have a g&l bass. would be nice. i have a steinberger and a p bass. i use them with a fender rumble amp. love the sound of those amps. just for recording though, i don't play out. bass that is.

Have about 2 mins.

Garlic never. I like the taste of fresh garlic but don't like the reaction it creates in everyone around after eating it. Either everyone gets it or no one if going t o be around people. It comes out of your pores by the way. Also it doesn't smell like garlic once it is processed within your body. It smells more like you were on an alcohol binge the night before. It greets people about 4 feet before you enter the space.

No Bass playing.

Domain names using your name for the heck of it is a terrible idea. You need a business address or your personal information will be attached to it for anyone to look up. If you think you will need it then go all the way with the formality of a PO box. Don't use your home address. Someday you just might find out you pissed off a nut case with something you posted when they are stalking you or seeking vengeance.


EDIT: It is the evening now and I have more time.

I'd like to clarify that by fresh garlic I mean fresh but cooked as opposed to garlic powder, garlic salt, Lowrys, garlic sauces, minced garlic in a jar, etc.

I'd also like to add to the reasons for not registering a domain name in your actual name unless you have a business address or PO box is that you are basically telling everyone who might have interest in knowing where they can find that collection of gear you have in your avatars or posted about in a thread.

That soda guy is so happy! Another great video.

I love garlic, but not raw garlic. Nothing like eating a kebab with extra garlic sauce after a night's drinking and waking up the following afternoon with that sauce smell still hanging around. Yuck.

The B-Max is boxed up right now. In its place is an ART Pro Channel. The whole rack weighs about 20 pounds, which ain't bad for a kilowatt bridged into 4 ohms. The cabs are 1x12s and weigh about 35 pounds each.

Flatulence? Seriously, I watched every moment of that video and I loved it. I want to give him a hug. Then offer to help finance that pineapple creme thing he envisions. In the meantime, I'll try a Double Cola.

I recently bought a NOS Hartke B-90. Beats the hell out of the Peavey Bandit guitar amp I had been using when I screw around with bass.

I am just catching up and have not viewed any videos.

I like light garlic flavoring but not heavy duty stuff.

I have two SWR bass heads and three cabinets. 2 15s and a 4/10. Use one on most gigs and two for high octane. I especially like Kens rig. Looks like something a guy my age should have. My 4/10 weighs about a hundred.

Ah, hell! I feel pretty good!

Not done with PT and I'm starting to have some concern about the amount of flex I'll end up with when all is said and done.

Played the El Toro the other day, which has the best neck and action of anything I have here. Did some REAL EASY play-alongs - maybe 20 minutes worth. I wasn't hurting, but I finished up really tired. It was sloppy and I was using REALLY bad technique, but out of necessity. The neck rests on the heel of my thumb, right over the metacarpal bone. My thumb resolutely points toward the headstock. Part of the reason for all this is because I can actually damage things by pinching; the other reason is that it's only way to make it work.

My biggest problem is being patient.

Yeah, I think that patience is the key. But I understand your desire to get back, and frankly, the fact that you managed to play some is kind of encouraging, and hopefully provided you a bit of a psychological boost that was timely.

So dial it back now. Your day to reap will come if you allow yourself to heal right. - ed

I love garlic, but generally avoid it unless I know I can be solo for a while afterward.

Back in my Navy days I had a boss whom I absolutely loathed - he was abusive in a way that rarely happens in the "real world". We were deployed at sea, so there was no getting away from him at all during the workday (and any time you weren't asleep was part of the workday). We used to have to attend a 2-3 meeting together after dinner every night, and he insisted that I sit beside him. I was about at my breaking point when he mentioned an aversion to garlic, and inspiration struck. At dinner I asked the cook for a couple of cloves of raw garlic. It was pretty painful chewing them, but I got them all down and made sure the boss saw me doing it. I made little comments to him all through the meeting that night, and asked a lot of questions to prolong the meeting as long as possible. I can't say he was any nicer after that, but he definitely gave me all the space I wanted.

I've been playing the same amp with electric bass since 1982. It's a Fender Bassman Ten I bought new that year. The tubes give wonderful compression, with a hint of growl. Bass amps are the one piece of gear I've never had GAS over. I guess I just hit it right on the first try.

I use a Gallien-Krueger MB150E 112 combo with my upright. The amp weighs about 25 pounds, and the 12" extension cabinet adds another 15 pounds. With a good pre-amp, it's been capable of handling bars and small auditoriums. I haven't tried it with electric bass, but I think it would probably do very nicely as long as gut-shaking bottom end isn't needed.

I haven't gone the personal URL route. The main reason is that I'm not able to do any "outside" professional work in my current job. Most of my in-laws work in IT, and they all have personal domains. I do agree with Michael's point about being easy to track down.

I thought you were more of a cucumber soda type.
Fish was cleaned today, spices and other ingredients were bought later at the store.

Sheephead and rockfish were given away, I kept the lingcods.
Tomorrow make Lingcod stew for supper.
Don't worry all fish are going to be taken care of.

Love it. And it's good for you. Always one of the first things I'll put in a marinade or stir fry.

No G&L bass or bass amp. I have plugged a bass directly into a G5 iMac, which then plays thru my stereo, and it sounds just fine for recording duty...

Not in my name. No facebook or twitter either. I am giving this google plus thing a shot however. This week they added an option to create a page for your business, band, etc... so eventually all the stuff we have on myspace or anywhere else will probably end up there....

i have a question about the .com. why in your name? i have all the free emails with my name, don't use them though. just to avoid others using it. but for a url, or facebook or anything else i don't get it.

Let's say Louis wants to do classical guitar lessons. He goes out and gets classicalguitarlessonsCA.com, he builds the web page with all the info, bla bla bla. That would be good, but not complete. Sometimes Louis meets people face to face. They get to know him by his name. He then tells them "Anytime you want to get a hold of me, just go to my website. Louiscyfer.com". That URL is much easier to memorize than classsicalguiartlessonsCA.com. You want a ".com" not a .net, .org or .tv...... Also, no underscore or hypens. Make it easy on others to keep in memory your URL. Over time, you build a reputation and behind that is your name which people know.
